Vomit virus IS airborne

I always thought that sick bugs were not airborne. I was under the impression it was spread by contact with surfaces the infected person had touched. We had a big event at the weekend and my parents had been poorly with a bug in the week. DF was all better but DM had the runs. She hadn’t been sick.
We decided to risk it and be very careful so as not to ruin the event (it was just us - no risk to outsiders).
We were ultra careful and only spent a few hours with them in our home at arms length. No kissing hugging etc and lots of washing hands. Now all but one of us are throwing up/diarrhoea. To me this looks like it was indeed an airborne virus. What does everyone think? Any specialists in viruses here? I can’t tell you how careful we were and I bleached the toilet and bathroom within an inch of its life after DM had been in there. Now poor DM feels awful about it and I feel awful that she feels awful!

Hope you are all better soon OP. If you cleaned the loo after her I’d imagine it’s from that!
Also silly question but did you use actual bleach rather than disinfectant? I learnt recently that most disinfectants don’t kill norovirus! I’ve stocked up on clinell wipes for that reason

With d&v bugs, leaving 48 hours between the last episode (of either) and resuming social contacts is generally a good rule for stopping it spreading.

Actual bleach also works

Re shopping in the winter. I have lots of cheap winter gloves. Use those shopping, peel off and straight into the washing machine when I get home. That's to avoid colds and flu though. Not sure anything stops norovirus

Thanks all for the support and advice.
im feeling all better apart from being exhausted. Husband is back at work already (working from home) and DS1 is still ok. DS2 is regaining appetite and not feeling sick anymore so fingers crossed! I’ll not take it so lightly next time. Anyone I know has any hint of a bug will not be seeing us. It’s too easy to miss things when trying to be ultra careful.

Get well soon OP

Haven't RTFT (too busy setting up a new empire in another thread), but yeah, I remember I was astonished when I learned that chicken pox and German measles are airborne viruses. I vaguely thought airborne viruses mean respiratory infections.

I don't think airbourne is really the issue.. you assumed it was possible to have a contagious person in your home without them touching ANY surfaces you might then touch.

That simply isn't possible, and now you know that. Hope you all feel better soon!
