To tell you I didn't know you could get rid of moles?

I have a friend who has a few. She had quite a big one on the side of her hand.

Scabbed over there and she delightedly told me she discovered you can pick them off! She had a cut there from a scratch and just dug her nail in and scratched away at it

She said it scanned over and now it's gone! So has healed back with no mole

AIBU to say or have though you couldn't actually get rid of a mole and the skin cells that form it would just form back the same again? Blush

I was a nurse so feel a bit silly for not knowing!

As another nurse .. please don't do this

On the off chance that any mole contains cancerous or pre cancerous cells you risk causing those cells to spread

You also risk infection and scarring

Just watch Dr Pimple Popper instead . Far more entertaining

Well yes. Mole removal has been a common procedure for decades at least. But I don't think you are supposed to do it yourself with your fingernails. 🤭

This is extremely dangerous and as Cat says above, moles can contain pre-cancerous cells. That's why you should always get any mole that changes in texture or appearance checked out

That sounds AWFUL, moles are meant to be removed (after being checked for cancer) by professionals.

get any checked out by the doctor first but you can remove them with the wart/verucca freezing stuff. Sometimes they do come back or need freezing off again.

I had a mole that disappeared in a similar way, but I didn't intervene - it did it by itself. It kind of spread out and went a bit scabby looking (I got it checked at the GP at this point, but it was fine) and then kind of just went away.

Clicked on this thinking it was about the black velvety dudes that live underground. Yuk at clawing at your own skin with nails 😱

The moles my friend has removed are just flat moles that are completely smooth. I didn't know you could use that sort of stuff on them since they aren't raised?

I tried this on a few of my moles when I was 12. They all bled for a while then grew back. Plus I had to deal with my mum screaming at me for being an idiot.

Suffice to say, it wasn't worth it.

I subsequently got different moles removed by a doctor. Pretty much the same thing happened. They bled, scabbed over, then grew back (bigger this time!). No screeching mother to deal with this time around fortunately.

I think for it to work you need to dig deep enough to get rid of all the cells, otherwise they'll just reappear.
