I feel being asthmatic is something very few people actually talk about, I've been strucked down over the weekend with a chest infection which has led to a pretty bad asthma attack where I've been nebulised 4 times since yesterday and no farther forward.

Does anyone else go through similar when they've had a flare up or been unwell? I feel so sorry for myself and looking for anyone who's struggling to chat away too for support

:-)

@Augend23

I think try not to use your reliever inhaler means try and get your life sorted so you don't need it - use enough / the right background and adjust your life to avoid triggers as much as possible

It doesn't mean sitting waiting for an attack to subside by itself

Avoiding triggers is hard - I'm set off by traffic fumes ( lockdown was fantastic) but not everyone can move somewhere rural

my new to me car seems to have strange screen wash which makes me cough and as soon as i started driving the car it made my chest feel tight, but i guess that could also be stress

Isn't it funny how the strangest things can trigger us?

DH put vinegar on dinner lastnight n that was me couldn't stop coughing 😑

Okay today I'm really getting pissed off being unwell, I've just came off the nebuliser, had a coughing fit, I feel like my head and chest are about to explode and if it didn't set off my breathing I'd happily roll up into a ball and cry.

Anyone else want a rant?

housekeeper at work got the bleach out,
luckily he only did it the once after seeing and hearing my reaction!

I'm a relatively recent asthmatic (last 10 years) and have really struggled since Covid. I'm coming to the end of a week of bed rest and steroids after flu and asthma issues over Xmas.
It really sucks. It's gone from a background part of my life to something that controls it at certain times.

TTC79 · 10/01/2023 08:42

I've had asthma since I was a child. It's generally okay but when gets much, much worse during hay-fever season. I'm dreading springtime.

WishIWasACavewoman · 10/01/2023 08:48

@Augend23 I was also told that using the reliever consistently means the asthma isn't well controlled, but to use it when needed and get a review if it's a lot. Pretty dangerous to not use it during an attack though, i hope you feel able to usevitvif you need it. I dont think I could bring an attack under control without it so huge respect to you for the mind control involved!

@SouthCountryGirl oh yeah - no milk or cream at all, and just some cheese.

What's really helped me -
Exercise - getting a exercise trampoline. I got a rebounder - this one which is £££ but in terms of use, it gets used everyday by two people. And the company are so helpful.

Cut carbs out for a month. Then low carb.
Get rid of carpets where possible.
NO FURRY PETS!
No smoking or wood burning fires
Hoover once a week with decent hoover.
Nothing under the bed, keep bedroom a dust free zone where possible.

I've also been struggling with asthma for the last few months. Had asthma as a teenager, but I only had a ventolin inhaler when doing PE. Didn't need it after age 16 I would say. I got covid in June and my asthma is back with a vengeance. Just coming out of my second chest infection in 3 months. Taking antibiotics and steroids. This last lot of meds finishes today and I'm worried about how shit I'm going to feel.
