NC for this one

Single mum still living with parents (and sibling), 4 adults and a baby living in a small 3 bedroom house. Tried to apply for flats but getting nowhere as no landlord will take on someone on DSS. I do have a job but don't get paid enough to rent& support my baby (living in London)

Waiting list for council houses in my area takes 4/5+ years

I've heard many stories of people who have got their mum to write to the council saying they are kicking them out so that they can move out. Anyone done this or know someone who's done this? How it works? What to say? What happened?

Please no hate lol

A friend's mum kicked her out with a baby and they ended up in a homeless hostel for almost a year. She then got a flat through a private rental. Be careful.

You could end up in temporary accommodation or moved out of area. Be careful going down that road.

The council would have to provide you somewhere if you're homeless, however you could (and probably would) end up miles away in a grotty little bedsit for 2+ years.

Its really not that easy in London to get social housing, if playing the system was that easy everyone would do it and the wait lists would be even longer.

I haven't got any experience but from what I've heard (I could be wrong) you will get put in a homeless hostel or b&b...might not even be in London. It would still take years I imagine before you will get a council flat in London or maybe never..who knows. Like I said though, I'm not completely sure.

Could you look at relocating so you can afford a flat in a cheaper area?

wanttomoveout · 09/01/2023 16:13

Thanks for all the replies

@minidancer I guess the thought of moving away from all my friends, family and my work is scary for me but maybe I will have to start considering it
