To ask about passport

disneydreaming101 · 07/01/2023 11:58

I got married last year but still have 7 years left on my passport so never bothered to update it as it was a cost that I didn't warrant necessary at the time.

We are now booking a holiday to Disney for May and I am unsure whether to try and update passport or just book everything in my maiden name. I haven't updated my name with my GP either yet (stupidly complicated process on which you have to book an appointment but can only do it between 1-2 when I'm at work!) so my covid pass is also in maiden name.

So do I update everything or just book in maiden, help!

Book in the name on the passport total waste to let the passport go to waste if there’s 7 years on it

Onebelow · 07/01/2023 11:59

Might as well keep it all in your maiden name for now.

Itloggedmeoutagain · 07/01/2023 12:00

As long as the ticket matches the passport that's all that matters

Heyahun · 07/01/2023 12:00

Honestly it’s not a big deal at all - sounds like you’ve not even changed your name ? You don’t have to

takealettermsjones · 07/01/2023 12:00

If everything is in your maiden name then just book in your maiden name. That is currently your name. Not to state the obvious but you don't have to change your name on marriage and you can also fly without being married, so I don't know why anyone would bat an eyelid?

MsVestibule · 07/01/2023 12:00

Just book it in your maiden name - if you'd decided to keep your maiden name, rather than change it to your husband's, that's what you'd be doing anyway.

Plus covid passport

EVHead · 07/01/2023 12:01

Yes just use your maiden name. No one bothers unless they suspect you’re trying to defraud someone. 😁

disneydreaming101 · 07/01/2023 12:01

If changed it on everything else so driving licence, HMRC etc it's just GP and passport that remain in my maiden name

Leave it as is.

I had over 9 years on my passport when we married. I traveled under my previous name, bank, driving license etc all in my old name.

Big issue when I changed my name at the doctors so my Covid passport didn’t match my actual passport.

Ridiculous to spend on changing your name on your passport for zero reason. Just do everything all at one time when your passport is due to be renewed.

Roominmyhouse · 07/01/2023 12:07

I had to change mine when I went to the USA because my driving license was in my married name and we were hiring a car and they wanted both documents.

Unless you’re planning to drive when you’re over there, this won’t matter. Passport, covid pass and tickets all need to be in the same name, rest doesn’t matter unless you’re driving whilst over there.

disneydreaming101 · 07/01/2023 12:13

@Onebelow nope not driving so I'm thinking it's safer just to leave everything as is.

I just don't want to get into trouble

Since you've changed all your other documents, I would change the passport and medical records too. For some destinations there are lots of potential complications if your documents are inconsistent.

If you can afford to take a family holiday to Disney you can afford a new passport. You have loads of time, it's not like you need to pay a premium to fast-track it, they are working much faster these days.

PuttingDownRoots · 07/01/2023 12:25

Used mine for 8 years in maiden name. Including living abroad.

Only issue was when DH booked me a flight on wrong name!

Star81 · 07/01/2023 12:25

If you mean Disney in USA then you’ll need to show you vaccine certificate before travelling and that needs to be in same name as your passport and esta form so they all match so do not change one unless can change all in time !!

dementedpixie · 07/01/2023 12:29

I wouldn't change it either. Just make sure the passport matches the ticket booking

At the time it was a cost we couldn't afford. We are also not paying for majority of the holiday...

My issue is I've heard that even if I update my NHS records it does not always update the covid passport
