Just out of pure laziness to be honest that mines is still up. Just keep pushing it back. Anyone else's still up?

I'm ill so its still up - needs to come down though as like it gone by 6th jan in usual circumstances. But not had the energy to sort it out.

Justkeepsmilingx · 07/01/2023 00:03

Ours are all still up ! Sally going down over the weekend ☹️

Nikla · 07/01/2023 00:05

Yes, mine is still up. I can't be arsed to take it down.

ElspethTascioni · 07/01/2023 00:16

Ours still looks great, hasn’t dropped at all, and I couldn’t be arsed taking it down tonight. So I might just pretend I’m leaving it up until candlemas…

fetesname · 07/01/2023 00:18

Some people will be leaving them up until February for candlemas.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 07/01/2023 00:18

Ours came down yesterday… It usually does between New Years and the Epiphany. We pushed it this year. Outside lights were down on Tuesday, I think. Not turned since NYD. (I live in a colder climate, it’s acceptable to leave them up but not turned on if it’s below 0 F) Now we’re down to the random things my DH overlooked. They’ll be down tomorrow.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 07/01/2023 00:32

Mine’s up til Sunday. Deliberately keeping it up for Ukrainian Christmas though.

Barleysugar86 · 07/01/2023 00:34

We were away until late Monday, the rest of the decorations are put away but the tree is still to do... one for this weekend

Coasterfan · 07/01/2023 00:35

Ours is still up, we will take it down over the weekend 😞

Lindtcat · 07/01/2023 00:37

I took it down the day before Christmas as my cats knocked it down and i was too tired to put all the decorations back on againGrin

Lemonyfuckit · 07/01/2023 00:39

Took ours and the other decorations down yesterday evening but I miss the warm glow and twinkly lights, everything looks so gloomy without it. Might have to persuade DH we should have 'winter' fairy lights up.

Talking about “candlemas” makes you sound like a time traveller from the Middle Ages 😀

Decorations left too long start to look abit tawdry and sad somehow. Think jan 6th is a good deadline.

Same here, my tree looks good and hasn't shed the pine needles yet so I'm hoping to keep it up until the beginning of February like I did last year.

Same. 😊

My next door neighbour still has a fucking flashing blue reindeer monstrosity in their garden, burning my retinas every time the curtains are open

HerRoyalNotness · 07/01/2023 00:46

We just took down the outside dec’s today. Inside still all Christmas is still on.

BradfordGirl · 07/01/2023 00:49

I am not lazy. Mine is up because I love it.

As does living with no heating, or access to healthcare , so I may as well lean in and embrace Candlemas along with it WinkMy decorations look beautiful to me for as long as I keep them up.

Although I will caveat that I think exterior decs should be down (but that's what I want all through- I detest flashy things and inflatable santas throughout, but each to their own)

fetesname · 07/01/2023 01:54

We don't observe candlemas, but we do have seasonal decorations which stay up all year round. Christmas decorations and tree are down, but at the moment it's small King Winter decorations which stay up until the beginning of March, and ceiling garlands made with ivy (artificial) and hung about with individual sparkling frosted, white leaves to represent winter.

It all changes in the spring.

Adultchildofelderlyparents · 07/01/2023 02:20

Twelfth night being "bad luck" was invented in Victorian times because they wanted people to stop celebrating and get back to work. Before that, people carried on with festivities long after the twelfth night.
My tree stays up until all of the needles drop off, otherwise it's a waste! It's still looking good. My fairy lights stay up around the house until the evenings start to get lighter.

cardibach · 13/01/2023 20:01

Redblanky · 06/01/2023 23:31

No, it's today, surely?

Twelfth Night is the 5th. 6th is epiphany. So down BY not ON the 6th as I understand it. Not that I care in any way. I don’t think it matters.
