Why isn't there a Me too movement re childhood bullying?

So many people of my generation were bullied at school. So many people in my kid's generation are bullied at school. Nothing has changed and I wonder why we aren't vandalized by this? If someone punched yoy/abuses you at work in the street you have some sort of recourse but if the same happens in school it seems to be much more tolerated/normal/ not much happens. We're rightly horrified by historical child abuse but not by ongoing bullying in schools and it doesn't seem to be anyone's priority. Maybe it's the last taboo and in years to come we'll speak out more/be more horrified than we are now. What do others think??

Bullying isn’t illegal (sadly) so there’s no one to bring to justice

Unfortunately it's just left.... my dc were attacked/bullied but by a kid with SEN

Schools don't do much

I think 1 in 2 people would be in it. so common.

BAdopter · 05/01/2023 20:50

I think holding people to account for there actions as children is just never going to happen. Most bullies grow up to be normal nice people who have blocked that awful stage from there minds.
More needs to be done to stop it happening now imo but schools or police don't have time to investigate every name calling or minor assault etc so it's unlikely.
(I was bullied and not downplaying the seriousness- but this is just the way I think it is)

I agree- it's so common and yet 'just left' just like bum pinching, Cat calling ,sexual harassment was a normal day to day occurrence in the 70's but things have moved on (in theory:/).
Bullying just never seems to reach anyone's priority list but is horrific when you think about it- just like putting kids to work at age 6 is no longer culturally acceptable- I wonder if school bullying will ever reach that point where the victim can actually speak out and something actually gets done.

School teachers would never get anything done if they had to stop constantly to investigate every single complaint

Peterbear · 05/01/2023 21:10

I agree wirh you but I'm more meaning the ongoing stuff.

I suspect most bullies have learned their behaviour somewhere, likely parents. And like their parents before them, they've learned to very effectively DARVO (deflect, attack, reverse victim and offender) any challenges to their behaviour like all good abusers.

Totally and utterly with you OP. Not sure how to address it though since apparently children aren't responsible for their own actions, in the eyes of the law anyway.
