House is worth £100,000. I pay £400/month in rent. I love my home and want to remain here forever. Would you buy it? Or keep renting? What are the advantages or disadvantages?

@5128gap
"Completely agree. Staunch socialist, detest right to buy (without reinvestment in housing stock) But something about people sitting on their equity with their gifted deposits, trying to make some one else feel guilty for taking advantage of an isolated piece of luck, in what is no doubt a far less privileged life, really grinds my gears."

"Gifted deposits"? What are those? Back in the real world .... scrimping and saving while having to pay extortionate rent to private landlords as there's not a hope of social housing because it's all been sold off!!!!

There's not just one 'real world' on here is there? Of course there are people in the situation you describe, I was one of them. There are also many other people who live rent free with parents to enable them to save, or who recieve a hefty parental handout for a deposit, and a fair few will be amongst those criticising the OP.
The demographic on here means there will be a strong representation from those who have been significantly advantaged in the housing market through parental help, yet they don't see the hypocrisy in trying to make someone feel guilty for taking advantage of their circumstances, just in a different way.
I'm all for people criticising right to buy, but that criticism is a political not personal one. The OP should not be expected to disadvantage herself because you or I struggled to afford a house. No more than the next person should tell their parents to make a donation to shelter instead of giving them a handout.

The difference between the price of your place and mine is unbelievable. Mine is worth around £400k apparently so I could not buy. Our rent however is around £550pm - so mustn’t grumble. I’ll keep washing down the mould that comes back pretty much weekly.

550 pound a month to live in mould! That’s awful. Who’s the landlord? Get them told.
