I must be misunderstanding something major. Aren’t gas prices lower than before the Ukraine invasion?

Why is the price not coming down?

As of mid-December, gas prices are double what they were at the end of January.

Two reasons -

Gas suppliers buy way in advance.

Thanks for the replies.

My bills were about £70 a month this time last year. I live in a small and very well insulated bungalow. My bill for this month is £300 and ive been using way less energy. I sit with battery lights on every night and my electricity bill alone was more than I was paying last year.

I guess Im just really angry about this whole thing.

Are you reading your meters ? The utility companies are charging high DD’s under the pretence of helping us by building up credit for the further increases due in 2023 but often readings will bring actual billing down

I had a fixed contract so last year I was paying under 3p per kw hour against 10.5p this year. The average use of gas is 12,000 kw annually which is £1,260 before you add the SC. If you're using say 1800 kw gas that's £200 roughly.
