Tories are asset stripping the country

I don’t remember things ever being as bad as they are now in the U.K. and I am 50 this year. The NHS is collapsing/ has collapsed (depending where you live), we have the most expensive energy costs of any country in Europe, public transport is shit, housing is dreadful & unaffordable for many, we have the most expensive water in the world etc etc.

The tories made a fortune through their dodgy dealings in covid- many work on the sly for private companies lobbying while in power. The want the NHS to fail so it’s easier to privatise (exactly what they did with trains, water, power companies etc). The country is being pillaged for the wealthy & is in a right state.

We should be on the streets but people are struggling so much at the moment, it’s hard to have the energy to do it.

Is a general strike the answer?

We know. They’re getting nice and rich on it too, as are all their friends and families

Moonmelodies · 03/01/2023 07:58

If they want the NHS to fail why are they throwing more money at it than ever before?

Strategic incompetence

CalistoNoSolo · 03/01/2023 07:59

And yet people will still make excuses for them and vote for them. Plus there will be the usual Labour whataboutery to deflect.

Letshaveablackcelebration22 · 03/01/2023 08:00

@Moonmelodies are they? They don’t seem to want to pay NHS staff properly and there is a huge recruitment crisis. I keep reading A&E doctors saying it’s the worst it’s ever been & people are dying in corridors. It’s deliberate

Spendonsend · 03/01/2023 08:04

I dont think a general strike would stop asset striping or the transfer of tax to private individuals/companies.

Ablababla · 03/01/2023 08:06

They’ve been asset stripping the country since the 80s. BT, rail, water etc. it’s not a new thing.

Reluctantadult · 03/01/2023 08:07

I keep wondering why there's not more fuss being made. There's a really big list of organisations striking or balloting. But somehow it's like it's not being added up.

It is absolutely time to stop expecting the poorest and hardest working in this country to get the country out of this shithole.

Enough of demonising people less priveleged than yourself.

BadShepherd · 03/01/2023 08:08

Yes! If Labour get in they’ll employ unicorns to shit glitter EVERYWHERE!

Letshaveablackcelebration22 · 03/01/2023 08:08

@Ablababla no, of course not not, but it’s ramping up to the prize that they really want, the NHS

OP posts:
PAFMO · 03/01/2023 08:08

"have been asset stripping since coming to power over a decade ago"
You only have to read the MN threads from 2010 onwards to see that people will still vote for them because: passports/Brexit/Jeremy Corbyn is a Stalinist anti-semite/benefits/Brexit/I vote Green/I don't vote etc etc.

Theimpossiblegirl · 03/01/2023 08:09

I completely agree. I don't know how anyone can justify what they are doing, but I'm sure they'll be along shortly to try...

Letshaveablackcelebration22 · 03/01/2023 08:10

@Spendonsend maybe not but there doesn’t seem to be many other options at the moment.

Ultimately we need an election to get them out.

@BadShepherd well frankly they can’t be worse than the tories

Not much of a prize. People have been going on about this for years.

Theluggage15 · 03/01/2023 08:10

Anyone who thinks Tories want to privatise the NHS needs their head examined. Usually the same people who don’t realise that it’s the NHS that’s the problem and throwing yet more money at it won’t improve anything.

LlynTegid · 03/01/2023 08:12

Asset stripping and sales started in 1980 with the part sale of BT.

Letshaveablackcelebration22 · 03/01/2023 08:12

@Theluggage15 bollocks. They want a US style system.

@MarshaBradyo and? It’s in the worst state it’s ever been.

Genuinely don’t get how the Tory apologists on here can justify the current shit show in the country and STILL try to blame Labour despite them not being in power for 12 years. It’s batshit!

OP posts:
Letshaveablackcelebration22 · 03/01/2023 08:15

@LlynTegid yes. I know that- but it’s worse now than it’s ever been. Poverty is reaching Dickensian levels.

Our primary school just had to set up a food bank and buy a washing machine for families to wash clothes as kids are coming in smelly as the families have no money to heat their homes. And these are families that were ok until recently. Normal people in normal jobs.

BMW6 · 03/01/2023 08:15

I've been hearing "Tories are going to privatise the NHS" for over 60 years.

Rather odd that they've never actually done it, even when they had massive majorities in the House, not even under Thatcher.

Why is that, do you think?

Guavafish1 · 03/01/2023 08:16

Typical tory economy... selling off countries assess, tax more and pay more.

Rip off tory Britain

But everyone loves a racist and xenophobic party that hates immigration and the wrong sort of coloured folk!

Letshaveablackcelebration22 · 03/01/2023 08:17

@BMW6 because they know it’s utterly unpopular. So instead he’s better to run it into crisis, let people die and then try and sell it as a solution.

Personally, I think people are so battered and drained after Covid, the lockdowns and financial impact, they have neither the energy nor the enthusiasm to make a fuss. I also think it desensitised a lot of people to what is "normal" and what we should accept or not accept. I don't think that's the only reason though. I'm not sure why there isn't more fuss. I see a fair amount of people online saying they'd stand up and fight but no one actually doing anything (that I have seen) apart from various strikes.

Letshaveablackcelebration22 · 03/01/2023 08:19

@MaverickSnoopy yes, agree, and it’s a tactic too. Make people so poor and worn down that they’ll accept whatever is thrown at them.

OP posts:
MarshaBradyo · 03/01/2023 08:19

It doesn’t matter what ‘they’ want people have to vote for it.

And I’m will to bet any changes go down like lead. Which is part of the issue no changes can be made.

You see posts going on about the European systems - but to even start charging nominal fees would not go down well in any manifesto.

Our model is protected (actually told to be protected in some cases) but is it still the right way to go?

However if you want to look at current issue - discharge medically fit. Turn on R4 and you’ll hear this from paramedic groups and others. Plus we’re having a heavy flu / Strep A year due to previous actions.
