Anyone awake?? DD9 to be worried - sickness

Hi there,

We went to New York on Boxing Day and my DD9 was very tired and pale looking throughout the trip, then literally as we were boarding our flight home she got a massive nose bleed and a bad headache, the nosebleed lasted for at least half an hour and drew the attention of the crew to assist her with tissues and water etc. I filled an entire shopping bag with blood soaked tissues. Anyway it eventually stopped and she slept for most of the flight. That night she woke being violently sick, physically shivering and generally unwell like a nasty sickness bug. My DH is currently up now with the same sickness symptoms so I know it’s a bug.

My DD9 has just woke up with another massive nose bleed and headache and looks extremely pale. She was crying and saying her throat really hurts her and she has stomach ache again too.

Do you think this is all one big nasty bug? I’m concerned with the nose bleeds and how weak she has been feeling, the sickness, although quite extreme has worn off now. She is quite warm to touch but saying she is cold and doesn’t seem burning up but she is very pale.

Any advice would be appreciated from anyone still awake! Just in bed with her now and give her some calpol for the sore throat.

Not sure if I’m overtired and irrational but I am starting to worry.

TIA

Thanks for the replies I wasn’t expecting any at this time.

I was thinking about 111 but concerned at the state of hospitals at the minute and don’t want to be sent to one unnecessarily and make her feel even worse. I suppose I was wondering if anyone else has experience of a similar bug with nose bleeds etc.

@CavalierApproach I do have child’s ibruprofen in, can this be given directly after calpol or should I wait an hour?

I am usually so rational and in control when it comes to illnesses and bugs but we are all exhausted and my poor DD is having such a rough time of it. If she still feels I’ll in the morning I will call the doctors first thing.

thanks again!

Some guidance around paracetemol and ibuprofen. Hope she feels better soon.

For pain (including teething)
If you've given your child paracetamol and they're still in pain after 1 hour, you could try giving ibuprofen.

If they are still in some pain after giving ibuprofen you can alternate between doses of paracetamol and ibuprofen. Only give 1 medicine at a time.

@87SPD how is she doing?

Mine finally slept at 6am and slept through till 12.45pm, she seems quiet but less pained today.

@Sukisal aww bless her, glad she is more settled today thank you for your responses last night. I eventually called 111 who were brilliant. I had a call back 2 hours after and was told that if she has another nose bleed to take her to the hospital. Luckily she didn’t and just like your DD she drifted off around dawn and woke just after lunch. She has been really quiet today but considerably better.

A poster mentioned how many nasty bugs are around at the minute m, it’s so true, we were all ill before Christmas with this horrendous cold and then during our trip I felt dizzy, congested and generally unwell and since coming back my DD and DH have both had nasty sickness. DH hasn’t left thee bed today he is that wiped out! Hope anyone going through similar feels better soon xx

I saw someone talking about their dd ( also 9) with the same symptoms last week on facebook. Nose bleed going on for hours etc. I think she’s fine now. Try not to get too stressed out but get her seen

@87SPD I’m really pleased to hear she was a bit better and didn’t have another nosebleed. That’s good news.

to the kind posted last night- we were given trimethoprim, but it seems to have worked a charm so far. I hope it continues! Just a three day course for now so half way through, it tastes vile! I was not going to complain or cause a fuss, but I do sometimes think a tablet for a slightly older child is a nicer experience than the “go to” oral suspension.
