To think others eat like me?

Does anyone else have a diet like mine? Yes I’m a fully grown adult and I’m aware it needs to be better. I do eat fruit and veg but Not enough. I ’m really fussy with ‘normal foods’ my lunch daily is cheese and toast. Literally I wouldn’t want anything else. I eat cheese and crackers a lot too. Breakfast is a yogurt maybe some seeds/granola or porridge. Dinner usually chicken and rice or pasta & pesto or something like that. I have crisps and chocolate daily. I could have two bags of crisps easily. Normally just a chocolate bar (or two). On a weekend I might have large bag of chocolate like maltesers or even a large size bar of choc. I also have lots of tea daily. Anyone else eat like me a lot of processed junk? I know I need to make it better.

Hello, fatty liver disease. Not to mention, welcome, type 2 diabetes. Your diet is ridiculous and will cost you in the future, if not now. It is not that unusual, though, hence record numbers of people with diabetes, prediabetes, and non-alcoholic fatty liver.

Oh give over with your scaremongering! Some cheese, chocolate and crisps doesn't lead to those problems.

Xrays · 02/01/2023 11:22

I don’t eat particularly well. Most days I eat a lot of chocolate (and I mean a lot, about half a family sized bar), maybe a cake or two. I do eat a fair bit of fruit and veg though, and I make sure I try and have some sort of balanced dinner. I don’t really hit the recommended at least 5 portions of fruit and veg though and yesterday I had a terrible day food wise (!) - pancakes for breakfast, eggs on toast for lunch and then a portion of chips for dinner from the kebab shop (!) - we had been out on a long walk and passed the shop on the way back. I then had some chocolate after I got home!

I am about 2 stone overweight and I do have very rare autoimmune issues but my autoimmune issues are related to my pituitary issue and diet won’t help that. I am not naïve however and know that I’d probably feel better if I lost some weight, but I also feel better eating crap! I could never sit down to eat a salad and feel content with just that.

whataboutsecondbreakfast · 02/01/2023 11:25

I reckon your diet is very normal - not ideal, but normal. But then again, I don't know anyone IRL who eats the way most people on this thread claim to eat 😉

I think genes play a huge part. It’s not just diet. My whole family eat badly really. I can’t remember my Dad EVER eating a vegetable or exercising. Ever. He’s 86 now and has smoked since he was 11. Chain smokes. Never had anything medically wrong, most he’s ever gone to the doctors for is an ingrown toenail. 😳😆 I know obviously that’s just anecdotal. But it really isn’t a case of eat shit, die early.

Educate yourself.

And if you read the OP it is not "some". It is a daily diet of high-fat, high-sugar, processed crap.

I have crisps and chocolate daily. I could have two bags of crisps easily. Normally just a chocolate bar (or two). On a weekend I might have large bag of chocolate like maltesers or even a large size bar of choc.

DizzyRascal · 02/01/2023 11:27

Haha I can't believe someone posted " I can't even eat a whole bag of crisps" 😂Really?? I bet your kids all can though, and do daily because every single secondary school kid I know has a bag of crisps at break...
OP it sounds ok, just add some more vegetables and fibre to your diet. I probably eat a bit healthier than you ( I love vegetables) but I do have chocolate most days.

SuperApple · 02/01/2023 11:33

I've noticed my diet is exactly like yours since I had my first child 2 years ago. I don't eat meat, and used to be very slim, ran a lot, and ate mostly vegetables and pulses. I now can't face anything other than carbs and dairy, and I'm still 2 stone heavier than pre-pregnancy.
I do think it's a vicious cycle, and is probably a result of exhaustion, where my body just craves quick energy. I also seem far more susceptible to illness now than before.
I want to make positive changes this year and think I can start by adding a breakfast of fruit to get some nutrients that way.

CrabDuckDuckCrab · 02/01/2023 11:38

I think food threads on MN usually reflect what people want to be true rather than what actually is.

We'll know the thread has peaked when someone comes along and asks what Gregg's is, anyway.

nancydroo · 02/01/2023 11:39

Hi OP. Don't fret too much these kind of things fluctuate. You say you can do better, so you do then you might fancy a treat. If too many treats you'll adjust. Everything in life fluctuates.
Some really self-righteous posters on here. Classic MN. No one escapes illness. It's going to happen to these people too.

Willmafrockfit · 02/01/2023 11:42

you obviously know your diet is not healthy
eat more fruit and vegetables

Absolutely.

Anyone can post anything on here, doesn't mean it's true!

Willmafrockfit · 02/01/2023 12:02

i am also guilty of eating too many crisps
but the proof is in my waist band

Your asking a weight/food question on mnet.you will hate yourself by the end of the thread and possibly be triggered into disordered eating op. You'll be told your an unhealthy fat pig. You eat shit.

What over-dramatic bollocks! On MN there are no doubt some people with disordered views about food, both at the under-eating and over-eating ends of the spectrum, just as there are in real life, but most people fall somewhere in the middle. To suggest that all of MN is 'fatphobic' is absurd. I have never seen anyone call anyone an 'unhealthy fat pig' or tell them they 'eat shit'. If anything, when someone posts about wanting to lose weight, they are often encouraged not to use such negative and horrible words about themselves.

Of course there is a lot of agonising about weight loss on here, because it's a topic a lot of people worry about and find it really hard to do anything about. If people ask for opinions or advice about their diet, replying (politely) is not 'fatphobic'.

Well you only have to look at some of the reply on here that are borderline cruel and disordered and "bollocks". but you carry on. Some not so polite either.and yes mnet is practically world famously predictable for how a thread will go when it enters food, weight and size territory.

Oh definitely there is so much to do with weight, makeup that is controlled by genes.its why one size deff can never fit all and why it's different for everyone regarding "health"

SmokeyPaprika · 02/01/2023 11:15

Why don’t you squeeze on orange every day. That would give a small refreshing drink to take before your lunch. Slice up and core an apple hand have a couple of bits with each meal. Then some broccoli/ cabbage/ kale with your main meal -done!

Good advice! Just add more vegetables and salad, and some fruit like apples and oranges. Try (I know it’s not easy) to limit processed food like crackers, crisps, and chocolate to one serving a day, for dessert or for teatime. Work your way toward it, it is hard I know! Your breakfast and dinner sound pretty good, just add vegetables to them, as well as a salad at lunch maybe.

The harsh posters on here are over the top.

Because you asked, no I don’t. Neither do my husband or children.
But a lot of people do. That’s why their are so many people with cancer, heart disease, diabetes, fatty liver disease etc etc. But you do you.

KingJulien · 04/01/2023 12:20

And because I can’t edit, I can’t correct the incorrect autocorrect.
