How often should toddler pee ?

Posting for traffic !

My DD, almost three has been learning to go to the toilet / potty training for a while. She's been out of nappies for 8 weeks now and barely has accidents.

In the last two weeks she's had two poo accidents. She's not had a wee accident for probably 6 weeks.

She wears a nappy at night.

I've noticed that she does withhold her pee some days. She completely refuses to go, unless she wants to go. So I don't remind her or randomly take her, because she only wants to go when she needs to go, so I don't push her. Her nappies at night can be pretty wet, depending on whether she needed to pee before bed or not. Again, if I just take her, she won't do it. She'll only go some evenings when she feels she needs to go.

I've noticed that when she sits on the toilet she holds herself down there and kind of pushes and she says ' mummy I push ', until she eventually pees. Is that normal ?

The last couple of days she's been at her grandmas house and she kept saying she needed to go and touching herself, but then crying or turning back whenever I took her to the toilets. Eventually she did go.

Some days she's absolutely fine and goes a few times a day and just comes up to me, tells me she needs to go and then she goes. Other days, she seems to withhold. We had guests the last couple of days and then she was at her grandmas for a night, so I'm guessing it's a linked. She's going back to nursery soon ( a new nursery ), so I'm curious how she'll do there.

Does this sound normal ? I think she's still getting used to it all and when she's uncomfortable, she's anxious and not so sure, she holds it. I also think the fact that she touches herself when she's peeing is just a way she's learning to kind of push out her pee. ( sorry tmi )

Could she have a UTI?

Could she have a UTI?

That's always a possibility. But usually you need to pee more when you have a UTI ? I might call the GP just to get a test tomorrow anyway, to rule it out.

I think if she was uncomfortable she'd probably try to hold it rather than go, especially if she has a burning sensation. However, I am not medically trained!

Does she drink plenty of water in the day time? My DS is awful at drinking and really needs encouraging.

My DS is dry all night from 6.30pm which would be his last toilet before bed and sometimes at 8am I'm still asking him to go for a wee as he can be reluctant. However, when he needs to go he will take himself off and use the toilet. I don't know how he manages as in that space of time I'd have gone 4 or 5 times!

Sometimes she drinks a lot, sometimes she doesn't so much..

The other night she peed at midnight and then she didn't pee again until the next day at maybe 3 pm.

Then this morning her nappy was completely soaked.. and she didn't pee again today until maybe 5 pm.. she kept saying she needed to go and then she'd look at the toilet and walk off. Eventually she went and it didn't seem to hurt her while she was going.

She was at her grandmas house, so perhaps she wasn't 100 percent comfortable.

Seen a GP for DS (3) recently, she said he needs to pee at least 3 times a day
