Im fed up seeing celebrities posting pictures from somewhere gorgeous

I know its stupid. Ive had this hacking cold and congestion since Xmas. Its everywhere. The weather in Scotland has been shite, pouring rain ,damp, sleet, just awful. Im desperately trying to keep an eye on the heating, the never ending washing, cooking etc etc. I work in retail so am not off for 2 weeks.

Id just love a holiday. We haven't been away in 6 years, 7 years now its 2023. Id love to feel the sun on my back. It wont happen for a long time. I know there's much worse things happening for millions of people and i feel bad moaning.

But why do celebrities need to post about their brilliant new years do's, all dressed up somewhere warm. Im sick of them. I know i dont need to look at the DM but you get sucked in. I just wish it was me sometimes.

I guess im just fed up.

thanks Trent. so, if you seek out stuff you don't like seeing then sure enough, you still won't like seeing it.

2bazookas · 01/01/2023 12:53

you CHOOSE to look at (celebcrap) that upsets you.

You're doing that to yourself.

You could just stop, why don't you?

Lurkerlot · 01/01/2023 12:53

Chances were is wasn’t actually over the exact festive dates. In the run up to Christmas, resorts usually give them a ‘free’ or heavily discounted rates in return for the postings.

I used to work for a high end Tour Operator, with a celebrity client list, and we used to get the offices of slebs, asking us to see what we could get them in return for publicity. Sleb was usually expected to get resort mentioned in the certain press, talk about the resort, and where they were going on holiday, be pictured there, and then write a follow up article. This of course was all done in cahoots with the travel writer of said magazine/paper, who was also part of the free holiday for writing about you bandwagon.

lljkk · 01/01/2023 12:53

JamSandle: I don't know what OP means, I missed the bit where she sought out the story on Daily Mail. Anyway, I do know what I mean. I don't see this stuff. Even if I look at a DM article (great for crime or political gossip). Somehow my brain or my cookies filter it out. Therefore I know it is possible to not see those things and not be annoyed by them.

ssd · 01/01/2023 12:55

TrentCrimm · 01/01/2023 12:51

The OP hasn't mentioned social media. They've actively sought this out, by looking at the Daily Mail.

Yes exactly. I'm my own worst enemy, i peek then get sucked in. I font follow anyone, the only SM i use is mumsnet.

Don’t read them then. Job done.

I don’t read things I don’t want to read, it’s very easy.

lollipoprainbow · 01/01/2023 12:57

All tone deaf the lot of them. Not an inch of humility. Would love to see the bubble burst for them.

I think it’s just plain daft to look at pictures of celebs if you feel like this.

This. I haven't seen any because I don't follow anything that makes me feel unhappy!

Delectable · 01/01/2023 12:59

At least these celebrities earn their living using their talents and gifts. They work and pay taxes. We're about to shell out more than £100million for a coronation. Someone who already owns the largest portion of land in the UK. All his expenses including those of whom would've been his dependants are paid for for life. Free holidays usually to far and exotic hot countries, banqueting, wardrobes, chauffeurs, maids, assistants, footmen, ladies in waiting, nannies, tutors the full works. Instead the media invites the public to criticise those making an honest living and paying taxes while killing aspiration, ambition and growing an entitled population.

ssd · 01/01/2023 13:00

And someone asked me above if i was on holiday would i not post about it on SM?

Well the answer is no, I'd rather chew my own arm off than get my family to fake pose so i could show off. Maybe why this annoys me so much, as well as being jealous they are in the Maldives etc, I'm genuinely aghast that folk want to rub others faces in it when we're going through a cost of living crisis.

But i guess slebs arent known for their introspective natures Grin

motherfugga · 01/01/2023 13:05

Agreeeee! You're probably BU but it's tone deaf all the same.

I went away somewhere gloriously hot in Dec (a friend's place so it was v. cheap) and barely told a soul cos we're in a cost of living crisis innit. No need to be a twat and plaster over social when things are horrific for so many.

Vitriolinsanity · 01/01/2023 13:17

It must surely be time for the annual shot of Simon Cowell and his moobs flashing his veneers from a jet ski in Barbados.

Like you OP, I got sucked into the Sidebar this morning. Why do I do it? I don't care, not in an envious way, but I genuinely don't care that Simon will likely bump into Gwyneth and Blythe
and Clarkson in his godawful shorts.

And I would not set foot in Dubai if you paid me as it just looks like Canary Wharf in the high 90's, but there are the Instas flashing their "underboob" in complicated swimsuits annoying the whole boob off me.

My NY resolution is to go for a walk every time I dally with the Sidebar so I expect to turn into Kent's own Forrest Gump Grin

I’m not on SM

For the Billionth time, MUMSNET IS SOCIAL MEDIA.

No, it isn’t.

MN is an anonymous internet forum. My profile on here is not linked to my real identity in any way, and nobody knows I use this site. I created my profile using a burner e-Mail address used only for that purpose, which was in turn created using public wifi and isn’t linked to my real life email.

Iamthewombat · 01/01/2023 13:29

whumpthereitis · 01/01/2023 12:46

I’m all of them, combined into one great monolithic entity that inhabits the #carribean tag on Instagram. Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair.

Nope though, neither a reality tv alumni nor touched of nerve, I’m just bemused at the suggestion that envy is an emotion that needs indulging. Those people you scorn are just getting on with their lives without a thought for you, whereas you’re giving them headspace and being bitter about it on mumsnet. The latter doesn’t seem to be obvious as the preferable position tbh.

Who’s ‘bitter’? Not me. I’m not envious either, thanks. I’m happy to laugh at (‘scorn’) people tragic enough to invite the Daily Mail to publish pictures of them on holiday, though.

As for “…just getting on with their lives without a thought for you”, can you see that anyone getting on with their lives doesn’t usually seek attention from the public?

You seem very over-invested in defending C and D list celebrities from mockery!

Well, I’d love to flash my teeth (real ones, not veneers) from a jet ski just once before I die.

Good luck to them. I don’t look because, like I said, it makes me feel shit about my poor life choices. Not that I could be an insta model, I weigh the same as 4 of them put together, but I could have worked harder, been cleverer. Got a good job that meant I could afford to go somewhere.

So that’s where my jealousy comes from. It’s not them, it’s me.&

ErinAndTonic · 01/01/2023 14:37

Maybe you should use this time to do a bit of a social media detox. People can post their 'highlight reel' but remember it's just that. The majority of people aren't going to broadcast their shit days online.

ErinAndTonic · 01/01/2023 14:38

Or digital detox if it's not SM. You're going to the source of what's bothering you, so not sure what you expect?

That's like moaning about conspiracy theories but spending time on their forums.

Ironically you’re giving them exactly what they’re after then. Attention.

I’m not sure two, three now, posts qualifies as being invested, but if I am then no it’s no more so than you. You know, someone can disagree with without having a vested interest in the subject, as wild a notion as that may be.

attack all you like, my the entirety of my point was that gleefully imagining someone is miserable (be they celebrity or common or garden Instagram poster), because they have something you want, does fuck all for you beyond indulging your worst impulses. And yes, it looks bitter as fuck.

Iamthewombat · 01/01/2023 16:43

I think it’s you who needs the digital detox. Ease back on the spite a bit. You’ll feel better for it.

lljkk · 01/01/2023 17:31

Social networking can be in fake names & real identities can be well-hidden.

There are A lot of anon/fake/parody accounts on Twitter and nobody says that's not social media.

It's the social contact that counts thru a digital semi/fully public platform, not whether genuine identities are used/knowable.

Alfiexx1 · 01/01/2023 17:35

Jealousy is an ugly emotion, and reflects worse on you than their social media photos do On them

This.

I have never seen celebs "posting pictures from somewhere gorgeous". This is because I don't follow or search for celebs "posting pictures from somewhere gorgeous".

Unfollow.

Change your search pattern.

BeeColourful · 01/01/2023 18:16

Why shouldn’t other people post about the amazing times they’re having in their life, celebrities or not?

Iamthewombat · 01/01/2023 21:59

Who said that they shouldn’t?

(I notice that you’ve segued from ‘celebrities’ to ‘people’: another nerve touched, eh?)

The OP is fed up and venting. She hasn’t argued for preventing anybody from ‘posting about the amazing times they’re having’. I’ve said that I laugh at celebrities who do it, poor desperate fools. I’m happy for them to do much more of it. You can’t have too much comedy, in my view.

BeeColourful · 01/01/2023 22:08

@Iamthewombat OP said “why do they need”, so the implication is that they shouldn’t lest it makes anyone else feel sad or jealous.

I’m not quite sure how anyone could have such a nerve touched in trivial matters like this.

I think if you’re gaining your “happiness” and “laughter” at seeing others enjoying their lives and feeling so bitter and jealous about it then you really need to look at what changes you can make in your own life to be able to make yourself happy.

If you were happy and content, you would not be judging, laughing and belittling others who decide to share their joy.
