But there are other ways to bump a thread.

And it's often followed by quite a lengthy post anyway - so why bother to start with that?

Yes - if you are feeling down, post and get no replies at all, it makes you feel even worse.

Why though? It's become an irritating and rather meaningless cliche. And is often followed by a longer post!

I wonder which MNetter first coined the phrase...
