DS speech?

Worried about how much my son speaks. He is almost 3. He can name most things when asked what they are, will inform me he is tired or hungry or if he wants something, can recognise emotions “mummy’s angry!” etc, will say “I love you” will sing lots of songs he knows, knows the alphabet and colours/shapes, can count well, there is very little “back and forth” conversation though. If I try and engage him in conversation he basically just repeats what I say parrot fashion. “Are you enjoying that DS?” “enjoying it mum”
sometimes if I say “what is the dog doing?” as an example he will say “dogs running!”
I know every child is different but with my DD we were having full on detailed conversations well before this age.
Does his speech sound typical for a child his age or would you be concerned?

I think it’s within the normal range. Some kids seem to get conversation before others do. DS2 was conversing (in his mind) before he could actually talk, but my niece was similar to how you describe your DS at the same age. She converses perfectly normally now!

I found that with my youngest and realised his older siblings had a bad habit of speaking for him, He is now the most articulate of them all at age 8 and uses a broader range of language. Even his siblings mention it.

Your DS seems fine and I wouldnt compare one child with another as they are all different. My eldest walked early and was excellent with play but was slow to talk, DD was a good talker but slower to walk etc etc
