To be annoyed that lots of companies won't take cash

Hi,

Been to lots of places that don't take cash, but starting to get really annoyed at not having the option of paying by cash.

Been to a couple of places today, first a well known activity place and a well known restaurant. Both completely cashless.

Aibu or is this a sigh of the times now.

What about the older generation who prefer to pay with cash.

I am totally intrigued. How does this work? Pretend I'm your CF would-be buyer. Too many acronyms for me to follow, need a breakdown.

What software would I need on my phone to enable the payment, iZettle, NFC (what's that), Apple-pay, "tap to pay" (not sure what this is) or Google pay already installed on my phone?

Would I need data access/wifi on my phone or is it a blue-tooth only thing?
From where would my payment be made, which of my accounts?

The software is already on my phone (I'm self employed anyway). I set it up, and the cf buyer taps their normal debit or credit card on my phone, just like they would at Tesco.

Basically it's a way of turning my phone into a contactless card reader (simpler than it sounds).

Ah, so they do have to have a card on them, at least.

Or their phone with Apple/Google pay.

But yes, just the same way as they'd pay for something in a shop if they didn't have enough cash to cover the bill.

Stfu. A lot of the older generation probably don't want to use it. My gran won't and it's got nothing to do with not being able to use a card. Idiot.

Simona1989 · 23/12/2023 18:19

I'm in my early 30's and I prefer to pay with cash too. That way I know exactly how much I've spent at any given time. With a card, I have to sit there making notes everytime I go to use it. That's why the world is going back into debt again

Poppysmom22 · 23/12/2023 18:25

Thr only time I've experienced card down was a few weeks ago in the high winds and the power went out. Couldn't pay cash either as the tills automatically locked a cheque would have been useful at this point

mogsrus · 23/12/2023 19:23

I know exactly how much has been spent, get instant message from bank,

WickerMam · 23/12/2023 19:45

You can't blame businesses. So many bank branches are closing or reducing hours. It makes it hard for small businesses to secure their cash, outside of big cities.

@Simona1989 just get an online banking app & it'll notify you every time.
