Would you take your Dc to the doctors for a cough?

Dd, 4 has had an on and off cough since Halloween. It did go, sort of, but now seems to have come back (coughing lots at night again)
Its been going around her Pre school, along with so many other things and all the kids seem to be off with all sorts.
Do you go to the doctors with a cough? She has no other symptoms/isn’t ill, it’s just lasted for so long now it feels, is it normal?

Cough that's worse at night could indicate asthma

Viral cough can also be worse at night.

At 4 they would be more likely to put it down as viral rather than look into asthma just yet, but may prescribe and inhaler.

@bikinilinemisery Yes, it must be around 8 months for Dd too, on and off, we’ve had the cough too and mine randomly comes back, mainly at night also
So he said it’s normal and they’re seeing it a lot? Did he prescribe anything?

It not nearly 8 months since Halloween.I would suggest that if you can't decide if its 8 months or less than 3, you get your story straight before you even think of going near a GP with a simple cough.

I did when I realised DDs night time cough had been going on for over a year (first Covid wave, so getting GP appointment was tricky). She was prescribed an inhaler and after a few more months, was formally diagnosed with asthma and now has a preventer inhaler. She was 13 at the time and symptoms really only showed after we got a cat. She's never been wheezy though, the nighttime cough is the only indication her asthma isn't under control.

No, didn't prescribe anything. Said there's nothing to prescribe really, it'll go by itself. He was really thorough checking her over though and spent ages listening to her chest - I was just about to ask him if he'd heard something worrying when he stopped and said her chest was 100% clear. Weirdly, she's barely coughed since.

@KousaMahshi Sorry? Story?

I made a mistake and said 8 months, instead of 8 weeks, ok?
I was replying to a poster who said her child had had it for 8 weeks too.
I wrote *Months instead of weeks..wow.
