37weeks pregnant and need early section

TerrazzoChips · 28/12/2022 12:45

I am 37weeks pregnant. I have no partner. If I have a section this week or next my mum will be able to stay with me. If I wait until the 39weeks the hospital are saying I will be alone.

I feel terrible but baby is term and it would be so much easier having some support afterwards. What can I say to my midwife to convince her to support this?

OP posts:

@ClaretBarret your post shows YOU don’t have a clue.
caesareans are avoided prior to 39 weeks unless the risks outweigh the benefits. Only when absolutely medically necessary are caesareans carried out at earlier gestations, and usually mum will have had steroids to mature babies lungs. Steroids come with risks to baby. I don’t know why anyone would risk this for convenience.

Yep, hence why the OP needs to state a reason that will get them to action the earlier section.

Many women have had success on mental health grounds for example. You have no idea how common this is.

If the OP wants earlier she will need to make up a reason that will get it done, mental health and severe anxiety are just one way to do that.

jevoudrais · 28/12/2022 18:29

I did not have success on mental health grounds having my mine earlier than 39w. And I have severe mental health issues. I was under a specialist midwife and had a c section by maternal request due to childhood sexual abuse. I was convinced my baby would die in utero after having fertility issues and miscarriages prior to having her, but it was still a no prior to 39w.

@ClaretBarret it is categorically not true that 'many' women have success on MH grounds. Like I said, I know of one woman and that was a really truly extreme end of extreme situation.

Of course it is, I’ve personally known 4 who have successfully had a 37w elective, and it’s also common on other forums around pregnancy (there were a fair few on the Jan 2020 peanut groups in the UK for example)

If you’re adult enough to choose to become a parent, you really, really don’t need your mum to help you.

trust me, I had 4 children, I didn’t have my parents with me, I didn’t want them and I truly resented them for being there, visiting, when my boobs were leaking, my fanny was leaking and I just wanted to shut my eyes for five minutes.

have your child when it’s the best time to give birth, not when it suits you or your parents!

this is meant in the gentlest of ways. But grow up.

Your post is really rude. Just because you were fine doesn't mean everyone else feels exactly the same. Maybe your relationship with your parents is different to that of the OP. She also doesn't have a partner.

Try being nicer.

The op has said she wants her section early so her mum can be there, not for severe perinatal mental health problems. Why are you making things up? You’re encouraging her to lie and risk her babies health.

JustAnotherManicMomday · 28/12/2022 18:53

I think OP is probably concerned that after a section(major surgery) she will go home within a day or two with no support. No one to help lift her baby if she is unable to due to her stitches. She is supposed to rest and have support after a c-section but if she goes in 2 weeks time she does not have support. If she moved in the wrong way tearing her stitches open no one is going to be around to help.

That wasn’t the case for me. No risk more than anyone else for breech baby, my pregnancy had gone swimmingly. No steroids given. I would have preferred it at 39 weeks or later but they chose 12 days before due date.

What do you mean making things up?

A poster claimed many women don’t get early sections, this isn’t true, many women do indeed get the green light if they make a reasoned request.

Yes the OP would need to lie to get one, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible as some posters are claiming.

I also didn’t get steroid injections before either of my electives, it’s clear @Peashoots has absolutely no idea what they’re on about

eatdrinkandbemerry · 28/12/2022 18:59

They won't allow it before 39 weeks.
I was in the same position and had to wait for 39 plus one day as the 39 point was a Sunday.

Yes dear, I do.
I am not engaging with you any more. I’m really quite bothered by your Irresponsible and down right dangerous advice. Hopefully the OP will ignore every bit of bull you come out with 🤞🏻

There will always be variations for individual reasons, but 38+2 is very different to 37 in terms of how mature a foetus is.

You clearly don’t, you’ve stated all women are given steroid injections before a section, this is false.

You have no idea what you’re bleating on about, it’s actually embarrassing

Absolutely haven’t stated all women are given steroids before a caesarean.
making things up, again 🙄

SSDDagain88 · 28/12/2022 19:03

The OP states she needs her baby early which really isn’t true she wants it early to fit in with her mums plans which is not the same thing. The NHS can not and will not just bring major surgeries forward to suit every family that walks through the door and to think they should or will is completely unreasonable. They will also not put any baby at potential risk of complications when there is no medical indication. Your midwife can’t not make these decisions as they can only be made by a consultant which is why you have to see the consultant prior to a c section being booked.
while it may be easier with your mum there it’s not a medical need and people telling you to play on MH is a disgrace to try and over rule and play the system that may push others back who actually do have a need

Montsti · 28/12/2022 19:07

I very much doubt they’d do an elective c section at 37 weeks…and particularly not in the UK.

I’m abroad and have had 4 c sections and all of them were scheduled for 38 weeks as is standard here..but my dates were always very accurate. All 4 babies were between 3.3-3.8kg…

I hope it works out for you either way. Fwiw the c section recoveries weren’t too bad..

Caesarean recoveries can vary. I do hope the op has support, whatever the outcome.
