To think he should have woken them up (parking thread by proxy)

DF lives about an hour from my house. Today we are supposed to be going to DSis house, which is a further two hours from me.

DF lives next door to an Airbnb. He's woken up, ready to leave at 8am only to find the blocked his car in.

He did not want to wake them too early (apparently they were drinking last night) so didn't knock on the door until 9:30 am.

AIBU to think he should have just woken them at his planned departure time, rather than inconvenience everyone else? after all, they are the ones that chose to park like that.

Yanbu

Againstmachine · 27/12/2022 10:16

How have they blocked his car in that is the question, are they parked over a dropped kerb then yes wake them up, however if he hasnt got a dropped kerb then there is no driveway to block.

DairyDiary · 27/12/2022 10:17

YANBU but keep in mind that there’s a reason why people avoid confrontation in certain circumstances. Is your DF vulnerable? We don’t know what he knows about these guests or the impression he’s had of them to make him think it’s best not to annoy them (even though they’re in the wrong).

No really as you can't block a driveway that doesn't exist.

So? How is that actually relevant to anything said by the OP?

Because if they have blocked his driveway it's acceptable to wake them up, if they have blocked a non driveway it isn't, like I said in my original post.

@Againstmachine 🙄

And if it isn't a dropped kerb it isn't a entrance to a property.

The OP hasn’t even mentioned a driveway. The neighbours could have double parked and blocked him in for all you know.

That's why we need what is always asked for a diagram.

DonutCrossMeIEatYou · 27/12/2022 10:38

I know this isn’t the point, but your DF sounds beyond kind. That’s so sweet of him!! (I would totally have woken them up tho).

astralpiano · 27/12/2022 10:45

Well yes he should have but he's probably a bit weary if they've been drinking and doesn't want to be punched.

givethistokevin · 27/12/2022 10:48

Surely it doesn't matter how they have blocked him in? We are not talking about calling the police and looking for points of law. He just needs to knock on the door to ask them to move. Who cares how it's blocked, the point is he needs his car out

I don't think it's really relevant but it's a private road. His space noses up against a wall, they have parked too close behind him.

You shouldn’t need a diagram to not bring up irrelevant things…

Your comments have no relevance to the thread you haven't posted anything about the parking.

It's not relevant. He was as blocked in, he needed to ask the people to let him out. The question here was about time, not legality.

And in my previous post if they are parked illegally wake them up. If not don't wake them up as its your own fault if someone blocks a 'drive' with no dropped kerb as it isn't a drive.

Yes I have…

traintraveller · 27/12/2022 12:20

It sounds like your dad didn't want folk who may have still been over the limit driving so close to his car. Frustrating but quite sensible.
