TV license

Sky1992 · 27/12/2022 00:57

So AIBU to stop my direct debit towards TV license since the kids only watch netflix, you tube or Disney and I only watch eastenders and most times I watch it at my parents?

Also is it worth cancelling it and only watching eastenders when I'm not at home or downloading it at my parents who do have TV license and watch it mine once its downloaded?

I've also never worked for Capita

Not true. You can declare "No licence needed" and "WOIRA" which withdraws the implied right of access for them to knock on your door but they can still use covert surveillance. I used to work for the BBC.

If their "covert surveillance "is so good why do they have to send their increasingly hysterical letters about starting g their bill shit, investigation,s surel they would automatically know Who watching a Tv without a licence or is it just ,they catch people on the hop who admit to
having no.licence ??
We all know their detector vans were just smoke and mirrors nonsense .

I don't work for The BBC any longer but the guidance is REALLY clear and you'd have to be pretty mentally impeded not to understand this.

Here you go, and I don't care if you get a fine or don't or get a licence or don't but it's really really simple:

www.tvlicensing.co.uk/check-if-you-need-one/topics/watching-live-online-and-on-mobile#:~:text=It%20doesn't%20matter%20if%20you%20receive%20TV%20programmes%20from,On%20any%20device.

I've attached a handy photo for those who cannot understand the law. I absolutely do not care if you decide to ignore this and break the law, but there are so many ignorant people on this thread when the information is so freely available....I really don't get it....

This is very clear but it isn't what you said upthread.

Bananas

NewBootsAndRanty · 27/12/2022 21:38

@Royalbloo you must be a bit thick if you don't comprehend that it relates to watching live tv or IPlayer, not to what devices you do or don't have on your home

x2boys · 27/12/2022 21:38

Royalbloo · 27/12/2022 21:34

I've also been to court and heard charges read out against those who have broken this LAW and they have ALL had fines when caught.

You do you.

Yes because they were stupid enough to engage with the "inspectors" and admit to not having a licence .

Florenz · 27/12/2022 21:39

The TV license is stupid, it doesn't make sense in the modern age.

Erm. Did you read what I posted?

I really couldn't care less if you get a done, so do your own research. I think I've done enough and you're probably a grown up, so....over to you to show your children how to behave and set an example of how to live whilst obeying the law.

Florenz · 27/12/2022 21:41

Apart from anything else, it's a massive waste of time for the judges and barristers, dealing with TV licence cases. It should just be behind a paywall, like Amazon Prime and Netflix.

NewBootsAndRanty · 27/12/2022 21:41

When don’t I need a TV Licence?
You don’t need a TV Licence if you never watch live on any channel, TV service or streaming service, or use BBC iPlayer. This applies to watching on any device.

If you only do the following, you don’t need a licence:

Watch on demand or catch up programmes on services other than BBC iPlayer
Watch S4C programmes on demand
Stream, rent or buy movies from providers like Sky, Virgin Media, BT TV, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney Plus or Now TV
Watch DVDs or Blu-rays,
Play videos clips through services like YouTube or to play video games.
Note: if you are a landlord and you provide a device to allow your tenants to watch live on any channel, TV service or streaming service, that address needs to be covered by a TV Licence.

Perhaps, but it is the law.

Judges and barristers don’t deal with TV licence offences.
The single justice procedure it used:

Some believe that it is a public service broadcasting service, bringing impartiality to those in countries where this doesn't exist.

The world service is a beautiful thing for the world.

But you don't need to agree, we can all do as well wish. But those who seek to break the law will potentially face the repercussions. Including a world where we don't have a BBC, which I don't personally wish for.

Each to their own.

pinkberet · 27/12/2022 21:49

@Sky1992 you need to complete a no license declaration with the tv licensing people. This stops them from hounding you for five years. I recently received an email from them (after five years) asking if we still did not need a license.

We do not have live tv. We just watch Netflix, Disney plus etc. Never live. Shock horror; I've never watched strictly or I'm a celebrity.

NewBootsAndRanty · 27/12/2022 21:50

Don't worry @Royalbloo , I'm calling 101 shortly to report myself for never watching iPlayer nor live TV on anything, but having an not detuned unplugged ariel-free tv, to show my invisible kids how to be responsible citizens.

TwoMonthsOff · 27/12/2022 21:50

As far as I am aware there is only one post on this entire thread saying they use the service and dont pay!!

It is perfectly legitimate to be Legally Licence Free

And then declare WOIRA - with a NLN declaration and a WOIRA you're pretty safe after that.

Nowhere does that say that you need a license if you are able to get live TV. Which woud include anyone with a computer, smartphone, tablet, TV, games console etc.

don’t declare WOIRA

Pandor · 27/12/2022 21:53

Lots of countries have public service broadcasting, and those public service broadcasters are inspired by the BBC. None of them are as good as the BBC though.

frankly we don’t deserve it. We’re increasingly becoming a second rate shitty little country. We can just watch American or European tv instead and pay them to entertain us, we don’t deserve our own home grown broadcaster that in spite of having a fraction of the budget of the Americans is still able to produce some of the very best television in the world.

It will go the same way as all the other things that used to be great about this country, something we will tell our kids about but they won’t believe it was possible hat the uK could have come up with something quite so impressive.

This stops anyone from knocking on your door, it's the withdrawal of the implied right of access for them to check....why would that possibly be a bad idea?!
