To be sad that Christmas is over for me?

As am back to work on the 28th. So many people have until the 3rd off.
Just feel sad that I don't have the nice, lazy, downtime so many others are getting and I will be asked how Christmas was when so many are still celebrating. I know I will be lynched for saying all this but just feel down about it and know work will be super depressing now it's all over.

Back on Wednesday for me too - no annual leave as self employed and freelance. Don't work = don't get paid.

I have been off since Friday though Xmas Smile

Changechangychange · 26/12/2022 22:51

I have literally never had the whole Christmas and Nee Year period off - NHS, so I always work some combination of the holidays (either Christmas, New Year, or if I’m lucky like this year, just 28-30th).

Work is likely to be pretty quiet, so doesn’t really bother me.

I was back at work today, and I was very glad! Back to normal...

Redglitter · 26/12/2022 22:53

Wish i was off til the 28th. I was back at work at 0600 this morning

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 26/12/2022 22:54

I have to work 28th- 30th.
But i chose not to book annual leave on those days.
Id rather not but I don’t feel all “woe is me” about it, or as though it’s not fair.
Most people’s leave isn’t fixed but governed by annual leave.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 26/12/2022 22:56

In our extended family I was the unusual one getting the whole period off. I am a professional in an office based role and have saved annual leave.

My DH and my sister had Christmas day off but worked boxing Day. Her DH worked Christmas day but had boxing day off. Her DC had Christmas day and boxing day off but is back on 27th.

DH works in retail and was back today. He's only got the 30th off whereas I've booked off until the 3rd. It will be nice having some one to one time with DD(13) and she is great company but it puts a bit of a dampener on it with him not being around.

I feel bad for everyone who is working this time of year.

Lansonmaid · 27/12/2022 09:43

My work shuts down between Christmas and New Year and the leave is pre booked when our leave cards are issued for the year. So no choice for me. Some years I'd rather have the leave to take when I want

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 27/12/2022 10:04

I worked in the theatre for decades, with this being panto season. Even when my kids were young. We only had Christmas Day off!

Enjoy the time off you have, don’t kill your happiness comparing your time off to others.

I'm back tomorrow too, I take the first week of January off as a trade off foe not taking time in-between.
