To ask what the best thing is that's happened to you this year

I can't sleep and thought we'd get some cheer from this thread as it's been an absolutely horrendous year for many so wanted to know the good things that's happened to you this year, it can be more than one:-

After a difficult unstable pregnancy, my beautiful daughter was born at 36+4 days and was absolutely healthy with nothing wrong with her and we got to leave the next day.

I reconnected with an old friend in January after a minor fall out and we've actually become best of friends.

My mum has been diagnosed with autism which doesn't sound good but actually it makes so much more sense now and she has access to the support she needs.

My DH has been accepted onto a university course he's been wanting to do to kick start a new career.

So please feel free to share yours, feel like we could do with a positive uplifting thread Smile

I’m now in touch with my half sister and it’s the absolute best feeling (for an adoptee) 💕

JamSandle · 25/12/2022 10:35

Growing in confidence at work and now having two jobs. I set myself a few career goals and I'm very glad that this part of my life is growing stronger.

2catsandhappy · 25/12/2022 10:39

Adam Ant concert in July. Finally after 40 odd years wait. It was worth it.

Avastmehearties · 25/12/2022 11:14

Passing my first year of retraining after what felt like a horrible exam. Meeting my gorgeous boyfriend who has asked me to move in in the new year (it won't be for a few months due to exams and current tenancy but it's nice to be asked after so long having no luck meeting anyone who felt like a genuine prospect!!)

Lentilweaver · 25/12/2022 11:22

DS got into a top uni for a v competitive course and is thriving.
I got a book deal.
I went away for my first solo trip in 3 years. Much needed.
Saw a lot of beautiful art and theatre for which I am grateful.

chimichangaz · 25/12/2022 11:24

Such a lovely thread - well done everyone 🥰

Fedupofdiets · 25/12/2022 11:30

DD got the A-levels she needed and went off to Uni and is having the time of her life.

I relocated a couple of years ago and now have a 90 mile round commute. A job came up locally (NHS) and even though it was a grade below where I am at now I went for it. I not only smashed the interview but was offered a higher grade (I never smash interviews as I am so nervous but this all went my way), so I only have 8 more shifts to work in Jan then no more commute....It will transform my life!

Lampzade · 25/12/2022 11:33

Dd2 got top grades in her STEM A Levels.
Dd1 and Dd2 are both driving
Settled in our beautiful new home
My French lessons are coming on well . Can hold conversations now. I adore the French language and have been struggling for years
Got myself an online tutor

Had some very difficult years so I am very grateful

AkoraEdelherb · 25/12/2022 11:35

Doesn’t sound like much but I did a lot of work on myself and have become much more aware of my thoughts and feelings. I still struggle mentally but it’s so good to be aware of what is happening and why.

I went on a 4-day dream holiday to NYC.

I finally admitted my feelings towards a very special friend. To myself. 2023 is the year I tell him Xmas Grin Will need to report back in a year to see what heartache he puts me through next!

Gufo · 25/12/2022 11:35

I got a new job that starts in the spring!

catsnthat · 25/12/2022 11:38

It's not much, but I'm a guide dog puppy raiser and this year I've met up with both my qualified pups and their owners. Lots of guide dog owners don't contact the puppy raiser so I feel very privileged to have an ongoing relationship with both of them. I can't tell you how excited I was to see them both (and they were very happy to see me too!) It was definitely the highlight of my year.

xogossipgirlxo · 25/12/2022 11:40

Pregnancy
Knowing that DH is progressing at work, is happy and content in life
We were relatively healthy this year, also no health issues in our close family

Cantbebotheredwithausername · 25/12/2022 11:41

Got to enjoy my healthy baby-turned-toddler, and be with him on his first birthday.

My sister had a baby - my little niece.

Spent some lovely time rock-climbing with friends over the summer (when I could take a break from enjoying the time with my DS).

Overall not a great year, a lot of financial hassle, a horrible job situation and I definitely didn't enjoy the onslaught of viral illnesses hitting us all when my DS started nursery. But definitely also some great things to appreciate and be thankful for.

Properjob · 25/12/2022 11:43

Meeting the last love of my life 5 years after the shock of divorce at 60 (thanks Mumsnetters you were brilliant). We can't be together all the time as he's abroad, but I feel so very very lucky. Merry Xmas everyone Flowers

xogossipgirlxo · 25/12/2022 11:43

Oooh and our secret holiday in March. Never had this much fun

LT2 · 25/12/2022 11:43

My baby boy was born

BeastOfBODMAS · 25/12/2022 11:53

I went back to work after a year’s maternity with my first and it was absolutely fine. She’s settled in nursery, I’ve been given a more interesting role and expecting a pay rise soon. My mum has been doing a bit of childcare and enjoying it so much shes asked to do more. So nursery fees less/finances better than anticipated.
I had been dreading going back since before she was born!

MattieandmummyandIs · 25/12/2022 12:10

My beautiful second daughter was conceived naturally and then born after finding out the year before that I have a medical condition that makes pregnancy even by IVF extremely unlikely. Welcome to the world little miracle baby.

FettleOfKish · 25/12/2022 12:13

Got married to my best mate. Christmas Day is being spent on the couch, just us two, he's full of cold so dozing on and off, I'm sipping champagne and watching TV, there'll be cheese later. It's perfect ❤️

Merry Christmas all

itsgettingweird · 25/12/2022 12:15

I had my hysterectomy. I've been pain free and comfortable for months now after years of feeling like shit.

Ds became a British para champion in his sport and the future for him competing still looks bright. I e never been so proud of him.

been and done it. · 25/12/2022 12:17

Went into remission in November after suffering 2 truly brutal auto immune conditions for 2.5 years which followed a bad accident.
Lost the awful weight gain and moon face caused by the steroids around May.

astronewt · 25/12/2022 12:18

I've spent 2022 working on a technical master's in STEM and I love it. It's really clarified for me what I want to be doing workwise and opens up lots of possibilities. I also fell in love with weightlifting and it's really changed my body.

Bohemond · 25/12/2022 12:35

Such a nice thread. Congratulations everyone.
2022 is my 51st year and it has been the best ever:
my business has flourished
went to festival for 50th with my girlfriends of 30 years
new kitchen extension
my brother and I are talking again after being estranged for 16 years
the best family holiday
HRT - bloody fantastic
I can truly say that I am content.

cheninblanc · 25/12/2022 12:38

I got a new job with a promotion and in somewhere I've wanted to work for years.
My daughters passed big milestones like exams and driving tests.

Lentilweaver · 25/12/2022 12:43

Lovely to read. Especially those who have overcome difficult health conditions. Merry Xmas to all, and I hope 2023 brings peace and joy.
