To think my sister is a flipping genius

Boooooot · 24/12/2022 20:10

I send my sister today what she and the kids usually leave out for Santa as my daughter hassaid this year she doesn’t think we should be leaving beer for Santa as he has to drive 🥲

So my sister tells her kids that Santa sends her a message with what he would like to eat and the kids prepare it. Aka, the kids prepare my sister and her husbands elaborate banquet for the evening. This year the kids have done a big cheese board with chutneys, pre-buttered crackers, pate and ham! They will sit and scoff the cheese board and wrap presents.

genius. Can’t believe I’ve never thought of this.

At 8 years old my dc could cook a meal…a simple meal but still a meal 🤷‍♀️

Sounds like a fab idea I’d wish I’d asked mine to do that

AdventFridgeOfShame · 24/12/2022 20:51

I presume Santa is kind enough to reciprocate and leave the kids a chocolate croissant or mini panettone in their stockings, along with a box of juice.

Itsthewhitehat · 24/12/2022 20:52

My kids always believed Santa preferred a baileys and slice of cheesecake. Then I ate it when everything was done.

I still have a baileys and a piece of cheesecake now

FancyFanny · 24/12/2022 20:53

I don't think the kids preparing a banquet independently was the point of the thread- I'm sure mum or dad help prepare Santa's feast if it's needed

PingPongMerrilyWithPie · 24/12/2022 20:56

That is genius!

My teen has just selected a reindeer shaped biscuit for Santa. I think he is a bit evil.

Blossomtoes · 24/12/2022 20:56

Cuppasoupmonster · 24/12/2022 20:35

No I think it’s lovely I’m just surprised an under 8 year old can be trusted to prepare such a meal!

How hard is cheese, biscuits and chutney? There isn’t even any cooking involved.

Pure genius @Boooooot.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/12/2022 20:57

Brilliant, your sister is a genius 😂

Toddlerteaplease · 24/12/2022 20:58

@DementedPanda I learned on animal park the other day that Reindeer don't actually like carrots.

BCBird · 24/12/2022 21:03

This is a great idea

Wetblanket78 · 24/12/2022 21:04

Better than a mince pie. I like mince pies with crumble topping but not before bed.

newtb · 24/12/2022 21:05

I made the mistake of letting Rudolf poo on the sitting room carpet one year. DD didn't believe in Santa from about 5 but still expected reindeer poo. Think my last effort was when she was 18. I produced a magnificent reindeer turd made from maltesers welded together with melted chocolate. We used to live near Tatton Park and her eagle eyes had spotted sheep and deer poo on walks.

OhmygodDont · 24/12/2022 21:08

Santa wanted Jack Daniels and a cookie tonight. Carrot for the reindeer though.

His note did say something to warm the old cold bones 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

DementedPanda · 24/12/2022 20:18

That's genius!! Wish I'd thought of that. Instead I've baked cookies and forgot rudolfs carrot so trying to convince the kids that a potato is a good substitute.

Lots of possibilities apart from carrots here

Rudolf has a tomato this year after much discussion... would you believe my dc are 11 and 12 🤣 guess they still like their Christmas traditions which is lovely.

Meowandthen · 24/12/2022 21:21

Love it! I grew up thinking his preferred tipple was brandy, just like my father’s!

Always felt the North American part of the night was awful for him as he just got horrible milk. 😄

Aintnosupermum · 24/12/2022 21:22

My gem of a tip is to leave a small tub of your child’s favorite cereal in their stocking. Breakfast sorted. It’s more expensive than the variety pack but I don’t need 8 small boxes. 3 tubs of fruit loops works perfectly.

Notanotherone6 · 24/12/2022 21:23

Not so much of a genius if she's still having to wrap presents late on Christmas Eve.

BaublesandBangles · 24/12/2022 21:24

Do people really give their kids breakfast cereal for christmas?

Greensleevevssnotnose · 24/12/2022 21:29

I've just put the scrag ends of gammon out for Rudolph and we don't even have any kids!

Your DD stopped believing when she was 5???? Wow that's young. What a shame

Gammon for a herbivore?ShockGrin
I'm sure the robins etc will appreciate it though.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 24/12/2022 21:45

Our Santa always loved Southern Comfort when the kids were young

Five’s pretty standard. I think my son sussed it at around that age.

Lieinrequired · 24/12/2022 21:47

My DDs know who eats Santa’s food. This evening they decided some lovely star-shaped chocolate cookies would be good for Santa. But they have covered them in loads of icing and edible glitter spray - just to see if they can make ‘Santa’ (DH) sick. Even Rudolph’s carrot has silver and gold spray.

DannydeVitooo · 24/12/2022 21:48

So kids who are young enough to believe in Santa, prepare a cheeseboard
