Dark circles under Eyes

Aquarius1234 · 24/12/2022 15:14

Some adults hardly have any and others look like they have been punched in the face under their eyes, purple/ dark areas etc.
So am I being unreasonable to be envious of those without them?
What's the secret?

As you age your skin gets thinner, you begin loosing collagen in your 20’s. So the thin skin gets thinner and voila the blood vessels make the area look dark.
how to improve? Keep that collagen layer fat and healthy. Moisturizer, and HDA will help. Sunscreen

Stressedmum2017 · 24/12/2022 15:46

I think it's just genetics tbh. I know people with horrendous lifestyles that don't have any and likewise people who are very healthy but still have them. The only exception is heavy weed smokers.

Aquarius1234 · 24/12/2022 15:47

I didn't think you were advised to use suncream under the eyes as its delicate area.
Sunglasses obv.

I'm surprised that some 30/ 40/ 50 Yr old hardly have them at all. Men or women without make up etc

Fill in lines under eyes with ?

a hydrating eye cream fills in the lines and makes the application of concealer much smoother

TheOtherWayAround · 24/12/2022 16:34

Is it pigment? Or hollow/sunken? If it’s the latter then tear trough filler might be effective for you.

Mybestyear · 24/12/2022 16:36

It’s nothing to do with sleep - it’s just skin tone. I had chronic insomnia for decades - I’m talking 1 - 2 hours sleep a night - and have never had dark circles. DH and DD are sallow skinned and both have them despite being great sleepers.

Going against the grain here to say what you really need is a colour CORRECTOR and not a concealer.

So if the discolouration is blue/purple you need a certain colour to correct it, is the discolouration is greenish/gray etc you need a different colour to correct it.

You can read up on what colour corrects which colour (something about a colour wheel!) but personally I find Bobbi Brown corrector really good. It is expensive but it lasts for absolutely ages.
My colour Porcelain Bisque was discontinued last year so I bought up about 5 of them while I still could. It's worth it to me as it is the perfect colour for my skin tone to correct dark circles.

Agree with hydrating area but any cream will work, it doesn't have to be a specific eye cream. You can get ones with optical "brighteners" in them to lift the colour too.

Also agree on it being genetic. I've seen very very young kids with dark under eye circles. It's not necessarily an age thing.

My glasses hide a multitude of eye issues. I have bags and dark circles they've blighted my life. I try to cover them sometimes but then any concealer just sits in the creases. ☹️

ethermint · 28/01/2023 19:04

facial yoga, facial massage, good sleep, lots of water, heatlhy diet and lifestyle make a big difference to mine.

ethermint · 28/01/2023 19:04

also i believe they can be linked to a sluggish liver, so might be worth looking into a liver cleanse of some description.

Anemia causes dark circles, as do allergies - to they're called allergic shiners and can indicate that you are having issues with certain foods even if you don't think you are. Dairy and wheat being most likely

Iwantabloodypizza · 28/01/2023 19:20

Mine are genetic.

My mum had them too. It’s the shape of my face. I have slightly sunken areas under my eyes that are really dark.

Nothing makes a difference. The amount of times I’ve had people tell me that not eating wheat will help - I’m coeliac, can’t touch the stuff 🤣

My children have them too, I am always asked if they are tired.

Iwantabloodypizza · 28/01/2023 19:23

I used to try and conceal them when I was younger. I got called “panda eyes” at school. I’ve not worn make up since I was mid 20s though, I just can’t be arsed with it.

I eat diary all the time, no issues as such, although in recent years get upset stomach if I get too much cheese etc.
I have had purple eyes for years and years.

I think for me sleep does make it worse, but I don't know if suddenly sleeping one extra hour most nights would reduce the areas?
I don't drink coffee but do drink coke.
Going to try Vitamin B for skin/hair tiredness,

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 30/01/2023 11:31

Sleep makes zero difference to mine - I’ve always had them. IMO mine are genetic.
The only answer for me is a good concealer. ATM I’m using No.7 HydraLuminous Dark Circle Concealer. A mini blob pops up on a sponge tip, so it doesn’t drag the skin.

Aquarius1234 · 30/01/2023 11:31

Eye wrinkles since late twenties. lines becoming more noticeable, nothing weird just genetics. Too much phone/internet use maybe.

Genetic in our family too - female line more than males, noticeable from the age of about 10 as well. I'm old now so it doesn't matter so much but I hated all the comments about getting more sleep when I was a teenager.

Slowingdownagain · 30/01/2023 11:41

It's largely genetic/ due to skin tone. But how are your sinuses? If you have trouble with them it can really impact the appearance of your eyes.

TildaRae · 30/01/2023 11:44

Probably not connected, but once I cut out Pepsi max, I noticed my under eye area looked a light brighter!

TildaRae · 30/01/2023 11:46

A lot brighter that should say. I did used to drink loads of it though!
