Thanking company for gift voucher

Have NC .I am asking if it is normal etiquette to send email to company shareholders thanking for Christmas gift . Gift more generous than normal but definitely not amazing ie last year we got a mug with our initial on 🤦‍♀️ Am interested to know what the form is because admin have sent us the owners email to thank them! Is this normal…am a great fan of thanking a friend for a gift but am not sure if this is normal expectation in work environment !

That is cringeworthy (not of you, of the admin at your work). I wouldn't think of emailing any company I work or worked for thanking them for a Christmas gift and certainly wouldn't be impressed if the department for admin contacted me and gave me their email address urging me to thank them.

A one liner wouldn't hurt as it appears to be expected.

I didn’t thank them for my £100 gift voucher when they haven’t given me a payrise so I effectively earn 10% less. They can get to fuck.

No, it’s never been an expectation anywhere I’ve worked it I’ve got a gift/bonus. It’s meant to be a thank YOU for your hard work through the year, not given with the expectation that staff will fawn over the higher ups for doing so.

WyldeSwan · 23/12/2022 22:00

It's just considered good manners to say thank you where I work.

Exactly that is what I think. Surely they are thanking us rather than us having to them ,thank them again ! Just seems a very odd expectation.

Do you know your employer personally?

God no
I'd thank my boss for a gift given personally but not the shareholders fgs. And I own company shares so technically am one.

Thank you . You have given me the context I was asking for . My BIL owns a massive company and he said he would be uncomfortable if individual employees thanked him personally! Just seems a very odd expectation unless you work with your boss regularly .

100% no! That's very cringey and inappropriate of the admins to instruct you all to express your thanks.

My manager sent me a gift that she paid for and code personally - I thanked her. I sent my team individual gifts from me and they all thanked me.

Gift from "the company" erm nope. Plus name me one shareholder that actually reads their own emails rather than just getting a secretary or business admin to do it for them 😳

Agree…we were actually irritated that a nice gesture has been ruined by reminding us about manners! We are not children !!
