Wtf is wrong with me?

Sorry I don't have an AIBU but I'm worried about what on earth is happening to me today

I have had covid, tested positive Friday and basically felt like crap ever since, but today I am EXTREMELY drowsy. My eyes are so heavy I can barely open them fully. My body feels achy and heavy and all I can do is drag myself from room to room and just about meet the needs of my toddler (19 months). I'm struggling, really struggling. I'm counting down to nap time as I can't stay awake. I'm on the couch literally forcing myself to stay awake and interact with her as I'm scared she will be left to her own devices if I fall asleep. I did take a sleeping tablet last night but it's the same one I take on a fairly regular basis and have never felt as groggy and wiped out as this the next morning.

Is this normal? Anything I can do to pull myself round?

I also have a fairly bad headache

i was exactly the same, OP. This current strain of covid seems to last longer than previous ones. I’m about 2-3 weeks past it, but still less energy and a lingering hacking cough. The fatigue was off the scale. I would wake up and within an hour I was asleep on the sofa again.

try and rest when you can. Is there someone who can have your toddler for a few hours so you can sleep?

covidfatigue · 22/12/2022 09:20

No there's no one. Just me and my partner and he's at work until 6pm 😭

Well he needs to come home then. You're really ill and your toddler is a risk, he needs to come and look after his child.

covidfatigue · 22/12/2022 09:27

We can't really afford for him to lose this shift 😢 otherwise he would have stayed. I'll just have to power through til nap time then I crash with DD. Only an hour or so to go ....

Well only you can tell whether or not you are too poorly to look after your toddler safely. I know times are tight but obviously toddlers safety has to come first over the days wages.

Will see how I feel after I've napped with DD. It might help. I'm contemplating coffee which I never drink as it sets off my IBS but I'm desperate for something to pull me round from this fog

I'm in week 3 of this, starting to feel Whitby better with all other symptoms except the extreme fatigue. I tested negative for covid but I'm not convinced of the tests accuracy -but again there is another thing going around that fits the description but isn't covid.

Eat loads of sugary things to give you some energy. Is coke any better for your Ibs?

Have you got a playpen or travel cot you can pop her in if you really can’t stay awake?

Have you got any cold/flu medicine with caffeine in it OP if coffee doesn't agree with you?

When I was pregnant with my second DC I was extremely sick and tired. Some days I shut me and DD in her room with snacks at the ready. I made sure the room was as safe as could be I just sat down in the room and watched her as I just didn't have the energy. Obviously like you I just napped with her.

Make sure you DH is ready as soon as he gets home to take over so you can go bed. Hope you feel better very soon.

It's not fair to tell OP that it might not be safe for her to look after toddler and her DP should come back from work. Some people don't have anyone to help and generally have to manage. OP sorry to hear you are ill, dont worry too much if toddler spends the day watching TV or having a nap, just do what you have to do to get through to 6, although make sure you're clear with DP he will have to take over then.

Hope you feel better soon.

It's the sleeping tablet. I'm surprised you weren't warned about this. It's advised never to take sleeping tablets when you have a cold or flu. The Covid virus is related to some strains of the cold viruses. The affects can be magnified. Also NEVER take them with any form of flu or cold medicine - again you can end up massively magnifying the impact of the sleeping tablets to potentially dangerous levels.

I had the other thing in November. Definitely negative for covid. It was a good 4 weeks before I got my energy back.

I haven't taken any cold flu medicine, just paracetamol which i take all the time anyway. It was just 25mg of promethazine, I take very often and literally never feel this fatigued!

Just woken from an 1hr 30 nap with DD and don't feel any better at all. Still very fatigued and drowsy. I don't understand
