WTF did this narc manbaby mean when he said this at the beginning of our relationship?

....'I may hurt you but it would really upset me if I hurt you but I can't promise that I never will....He meant emotionally ,as in my feelings. Anyway nearly three years down the line, he has hurt me and let me down badly so I've dumped him.His behaviour became increasingly controlling, bossy,impatient and a little snidey so I posted here and it turns out that he had more red flags that I could admit to myself at the time. Was he telling me who he is, warning me , what was he doing ???? Strnage comment but I was too loved up and tbh it only came back to me this morning.

I'm not sure what cognitive dissonance is but yes, time to move on. He was a dream to begin with but then I rememebred he said that but in the context of me being so amazing and couldnt believe his luck and other such overbearing bullshit. When he did say that to me, I remember turning around and telling him that in my case, I'll try hard for a relationship, but once I'm done, I'm done.He really didn't like that.It came true though...on both of our counts.

Forewarned is fair warned. Next time, believe someone when they tell you who they are.

I think it is testing you out to see what you are likely to put up with early on and I expect he got a reaction he liked, lots of reassurance , put you in the position of rescuing him. Highly manipulative behaviour.
