Hand foot and mouth at playgroup

I took 15 month old DD to playgroup last Monday. Spotted a little girl of a similar age with a rash on her face but didn't think much of it, presumed it was eczema or something. At the end of the session I was talking to said child's grandmother who casually told me - she's just getting over hand foot and mouth (hence the rash).

Lo and behold on Sunday DD started with a high temp and very unsettled and is now covered in blisters, upset and not sleeping just in time for Christmas. AIBU to be really annoyed at the grandmother bringing the child to playgroup? I wouldn't dream of taking DD as she is especially as there are much younger babies there too... I feel as though maybe there should be some kind of policy at the playgroup to address this but surely its just common sense?!

Well NHS advice is not to keep them off nursery etc if they're happy in themselves 🤷‍♀️
I believe they're usually most contagious before the visible spots start appearing. It went through my daughters nursery a couple of years ago, but by the time the first got the spots it was too late and they all cone out with it shortly after
That said, while we did keep taking her to nursery (she was fine the whole time, and as everyone had it, it made no difference) we didn't/wouldn't take her to classes or groups anywhere else because that's a bit crap, regardless of nhs advice.
That said, they practically all get it so it was probably going to happen sooner or later anyway, unfortunately. Unfortunate timing too but there's so much around at the moment that the only way to orevent illness at Christmas is to not go anywhere or see anyone for a fortnight beforehand. 2 of us slowly getting better here, 3rd just becoming ill, and time will tell if DH succumbs too...

I did think this myself about the NHS advice was I being a bit precious... I know DD is going to encounter all sorts in public settings. I'm jaded as well because I'm absolutely exhausted and poor DD is really uncomfortable with it. I agree re everyone being unwell I feel like everybody I know is ill at the minute (us included) we've just got over one viral infection now onto another.

All these childhood illness were reduced due to covid, it's done kids no favours at all missing out on them. Yes it's crap, I've young kids myself and it feels like we are ALWAYS ill but it's how they build up a strong immune system unfortunately.

The NHS advice is based on the fact that it's so contagious isolation is pointless. There is also a 3 -5 day isolation period so traceability is hard.

We have HFM and chicken pox and Scarlett fever all going round at the moment.
