I'm sick to death of these bloody idiots and their dogs

Heading to the park with DM and my 3 small DC. An idiot with his 'XL bully' breed dog was loitering infront of us for three blocks. The dog turning round and growling mat the kids. The owner was being dragged along by the dog at one point and had very little control over it.

We turned off as soon as we could and went another way. Unfortunately when we got to the park the same idiot and dog were there, dog off its lead now. He was having the dog jump up and latch onto a rope tied to a tree with a big knot in it, it's something they do to strengthen the dogs jaw. You can gather why they do that.

It's clear what type of owner he was and I could tell before we even saw him doing the rope thing with the dog.

We had to turn around and go back home as the children were scared of it and didn't want to walk past it or go into the park at all now

I'll be honest it frightens me a bit too. I know what those kind of dogs are capable of when in the hands of a shit owner.

AIBU to feel this way about these people and their preferred breed of dog?

I am a dog owner and would have done exactly the same thing. Unfortunately a small proportion of idiots gives everyone and a breed a bad name.

For reference my parents own a staffy he is the softest daftest thing who has been trained properly.
Unfortunately these people train their dogs very differently

Yanbu. I hate those owners and their pathetic bully breeds. It's not a pet it's a potential weapon.

My old cat was pretty vicious and was not allowed out without strict supervision because she was liable to attack people.
She was fine with me but nobody else.
My neighbour kept coming over and persistently attempted to stroke her despite all the warnings so not suprisingly the cat sunk her fangs in and 2 days later the neighbour had to go to A&E with sepsis.
Any animal can be dangerous. I wouldn't want to hold my friends hamster (no euphemism intended) it's a bitey little sod.

EezyOozy · 20/12/2022 14:02

@Bestcatmum a hamster is unlikely to kill a child. Also true of cats.

I agree, I honestly think dog onwership should be regulated. I worry for my DC and for my own dog with people like this allowed to own them. It's so scary.

Carry a piece of paracord with a little loop tied at one end.

Then, if you do need to get the dog off your kids, you can put the cord around its neck and choke it out. "Lead hang" it with it if you have the strength and height.

I know someone will come along and say "Oh that's so mean", but it isn't going to react to you saying "Oh please doggy, let go of my kid" and sticking your hands in there will get them bitten and not do much. Needs must
