Driving test tomorrow - panicking!

Hello. I’ve written this on another thread but alas I have had no responses so will try on here!

I have my driving test tomorrow and so so nervous! This is my third time and really want to pass before the new year also moving rurally so a car would be much better, no pressure at all

Any stories of comfort about your test would reassure me! Thanks

Relax ... you can do this.

Is there anything you particularly stress about??

35965a · 20/12/2022 11:18

Fingers crossed for third time lucky! Try to stay calm, have a small sugary drink and banana beforehand. Don’t try and rush anything and keep telling yourself ‘I’m just going for a drive’ to reduce the pressure.

Good luck! I got lucky on mine as I thought I made an error at the beginning so relaxed for the rest of the test thinking I had failed (pulled out of a junction fast and made the examiner jerk back in his seat as a car came over the hill to the left really quickly). Just got a mention that I needed to watch my speed coming out of junctions.

Rescue remedy worked for me, I failed 2 times because of nerves, 3rd time I passed and I used rescue remedy- could have been a fluke but it's worth a shot if you can get hold of some.

Good luck!!

Getmealicence · 20/12/2022 11:26

Thanks for the responses. I can’t really put a finger on why I’m nervous. It’s a combination of being under test conditions, failing & having a nasty examiner!

Thanks on the advice for rescue remedy. I will pop into town and look for some!

I'd recommend Rescue Remedy - it either works or the placebo effect does!

I also recommend having a little break before you go to the test centre if you have a lesson before... because I passed second time and about 30 minutes before the test (I had a 2-hour lesson prior to the test) the instructor said, "Right, that's enough driving. Let's go and get a Twix". And we did. We sat in a carpark eating chocolate bars and talking rubbish and we scrolled through our phones a bit in silence and it made it feel less like "panic, get every last bit of practice in" - as he said, nothing I could teach you in the last half an hour is going to make a difference because you already know it and I'd rather you went in there calm.

You know how to drive otherwise you wouldn't be doing your test. The person in the car with you is just another person. You're just having a drive, a thing that maybe 30 minutes later you'll be able to go and do by yourself legally. You can do it, you just need to get out of your own head. Deep breaths, chill beforehand, chuck some rescue remedy drops in your mouth and go and have a nice drive where there just happens to be someone with a clipboard 😊

(And good luck!)

Rescue remedy, banana and chewing gum - really calmed me down the day of my test!

Kualma · 20/12/2022 11:57

Ah OP. Try not to worry too much. You know what to expect from the test so hopefully that’ll be les daunting for you. I would recommend a good night’s sleep tonight! Also don’t dwell upon mistakes during the test.

On my final test, the lesson before the actual driving test - I was attempting to parallel park and I clipped someone’s wing mirror 🙈. My instructor shrugged it off and said it was last minute nerves! Turns out he was right! Passed with him the same day.

Good luck and keep us updated!

mothertrucking · 21/12/2022 14:24

How did it go?

Whammyyammy · 21/12/2022 14:35

My husband failed his driving test 4 times, but passed his motorcycle one both first time. His biggest enemy was nerves, which he didn't have on the bike as was one.

Just relax, take a deep breath and pass it.

quietnightmare · 21/12/2022 14:40

Hope you passed OP but not to worry if you haven't you will get there

ILoveeCakes · 21/12/2022 14:53

Have a cheeky gin to calm your nerves

Getmealicence · 21/12/2022 17:39

Hi all. Thanks for thinking of me!

I had my test at 09:14 today and I passed! Only got 2 minors which I was amazed about! Thank God I don’t have to do that awful test again. Thanks for those suggestions about the rescue remedy - it worked (probably a placebo but it was what I needed!)

Now it’s time to get a car! Any recommendations? 😂

Well done 👍

Well done @Getmealicence 👏

Moon5 · 21/12/2022 17:43

I passed in November, 3rd time lucky. The only thing I did differently was take 2 paracetamol and ate a banana beforehand. Good luck xx

Glad you tried the rescue remedy and it did the trick for you😁

quietnightmare · 22/12/2022 15:51

Well done OP. Any car will do. Not sure on your age so insurance etc but a min or corsa or Citroen c1 are nice small easy to drive cars

quietnightmare · 22/12/2022 15:51

*mini

Teaandscone · 22/12/2022 15:55

Well done!

aintnothinbutagstring · 22/12/2022 16:10

Congrats! I learnt in a Toyota yaris and own one now - they're great little cars.

housemaus · 30/12/2022 13:51

I'd second a Yaris, or a Hyundai i10 - brilliant first car, cheap to insure and reliable (but not super powerful if you get the 1.0l - if you live in a hilly area get a 1.2!)
