When someone posts on Facebook “My Family Is Better Than Yours”

When someone posts with the actual words….my family is better than yours?

Really:

  • your mum’s five year affair
  • because of your dad’s workaholic
  • Your sister’s eating disorder
OP posts:
Oysterbabe · 19/12/2022 23:46

It was a joke and you are a nasty cow.

DuplicateUserName · 19/12/2022 23:47

Why have you come running to Mumsnet?

If the post is on Facebook, that's where you should be saying your piece surely?

Oysterbabe · 19/12/2022 23:46

It was a joke and you are a nasty cow.

Do you know the Op?

chelle0 · 20/12/2022 00:30

You sound just as awful as them.

Rainbowdrops2021 · 20/12/2022 01:41

Ha I wrote the same but about my sister not too long ago because she helped me with my children while I was really sick and I would have been totally screwed without her. It’s just a bit of a jokey statement where she was showing her appreciation of her family, it doesn’t matter what their perceived faults are she clearly loves them. Why are you so bitter op.

SoMachoHesGottaBe · 20/12/2022 01:45

I think she's probably right after reading your op.

why can’t people have some introspection and realisation that the lives they are living are, actually, quite privileged.
And their privilege came on the back and hard work of others (their dad and his sacrifice?)

They used the words:
”My Family Is Better Than Yours”

So? Is their family, their allowed to thing that, and they're only showing themselves up by paying it at sometime else. You clearly don't have a good relationship with this person if they've messaged you that all just delete them

HitMeWithAHotNoteAndWatchMeBounce · 20/12/2022 01:49

What’s this actually about, OP?

lljkk · 20/12/2022 03:34

How can you be offended by something daft someone said.
I imagine you dislike them for other reasons.

GreenWheat · 20/12/2022 04:39

Good grief, this is ridiculous. "My X is better than yours" is a tongue in cheek, throwaway FB comment for a one-off good time/incident. She's hardly carried out a thorough introspective comparison between her family and yours and posted this as her considered conclusion has she?

toomuchlaundry · 20/12/2022 04:43

if you have your settings set up correctly only friends will see your posts. Why is this person in your facebook?

BatshitBanshee · 20/12/2022 05:54

YABU, YABU and YABU.

Did you really bring up someone's sister's eating disorder as a familial put down? You're a nastier bitch than someone posting a throwaway tongue in cheek comment about their own family. If you can't fathom that the internet doesn't subscribe to you then perhaps it isn't for you.

Something very wrong with someone who can't compartmentalise this and instead posts a one-sided counter argument on a different forum as retaliation. Regulate yourself.

Ylvamoon · 20/12/2022 06:04

If you feel that way it must be true ...

ThePoshUns · 20/12/2022 07:15

So you get so upset by one forum that you moan about it on another one? Just ignore and move in.

LolaSmiles · 20/12/2022 07:19

I've seen a few people post that phrase and thought it was a silly joke rather than a statement of their superiority.

Either there's a back story here or you're taking other people's social medi posts far too seriously.

EasterIsland · 20/12/2022 07:31

Just ignore, ignore, ignore.

You can mute their feed you know @HaveSomeIntrospect

CrackersCheeseAndWinePlease · 20/12/2022 07:32

Using an eating disorder to compare how your family is better than theirs is low. I'd never say my family is better than anyone else's but I have a dd battling anorexia and if it was used against her as a put down I'd be fucking fuming.
If you don't like what someone posts then unfriend them

Womencanlift · 20/12/2022 07:36

And this is why I happily deleted Facebook years ago. Life is too short for all this shit

SirMingeALot · 20/12/2022 07:46

People who doth protest too much are a whole, frequently fascinating social media genre in themselves. Although I would've read the better than yours part as a joke unless there's some backstory, and I hardly see how an ED is relevant.

SleeplessInEngland · 20/12/2022 07:47

YABU for still using Facebook

Logginglogger · 20/12/2022 07:48

What was the context? What prompted it?
