To crave composite bonding treatment before I purchase a home?

That’s it really.

I do not yet own a home but wish to perfect my smile. I’m currently incredibly overweight and am working on that, but feel a good smile would give me more confidence.

As I understand, this is cheaper than veneers but more of a temporary option, giving you the choice whether to continue with it or not. Also, a friend has veneers and she now looks like a horse. Albeit a very stylish, beautiful horse!

Has anyone had the bonding done? And also how much were you set back? I’ve had a few quotes, ranging from £2K to £4K, and only want/need the top done.

My teeth are not bad tbh, but I have a couple of acquaintances who are drama graduates and they look so polished and fresh with their lovely smiles (one has the bonding and one has regular whitening treatments).

Thanks!

Following! I own a house already but always considered this as my teeth are good now but I do not onset what composite bonding could do to enhance them!

Composite only lasts a couple of years. It chips easily. It stains even more easily. You will need to avoid red wine, tea and coffee, coke, red pasta sauces etc as anything will stain them and they will look horrible. They often suggest they can be repaired easily and stains sanded off etc but repairs and resurfacing make the surface more rough and even more prone to staining. I couldn't keep mine white for more than a few months.

I swapped to porcelain veneers and am very happy but I had damage to my teeth which meant it was an obvious choice. I wouldn't suggest veneers for healthy but 'ugly' teeth. I have very natural veneers and nobody can tell but they were not cheap. Imo they are worth every penny.

If your smile only has small problems composite may work. You may also find that invisilign or similar products are enough if its straightness that is the issue.

DS has composite veneers/bonding to hide discoloured teeth, he had them done 6 years ago and have lasted really well, still don’t need redoing. His were done on NHS but we will have to pay to have them redone, privately I thought they were about £150 - £200 per tooth and seen a dentist advertising for around this amount.

I’m thinking of getting it done. Going to ask my dentist when I get a crown done next month

I had it done about 14 years ago. Needed redoing last year with no problems doing so. I didn't want porcelein veneers because of the removal of the tooth surface etc. I do limit my red wine consumption as that will stain them, but nothing else seems to be too problematic. I only had it done on three small gaps though. Cost last time was £600.

I had it done a few years ago after chipping two front teeth, they’re still perfect. I’ll have them redone when required. Prefer them to anything that compromises the integrity of the tooth.

I don’t avoid red wine, coffee, curry, tomato sauces etc, they haven’t chipped or stained. Codswallop.

I had composite bonding on my teeth four years ago. It was around £150 per tooth and I had it to build up an open bite. My teeth are so much better now and they haven't chipped or worn down at all.

I have Denplan cover which is about £20 a month and covers composite repairs at my private dentist. Perhaps something to look into for upkeep.

Veneers require you to file down healthy teeth and the initial outlay and upkeep is expensive.

I'm always of the opinion to keep your natural teeth if at all possible.

I also have composite to close a gap between my two front teeth so very prominent position, first had it done at 18, had it re done a second time in my late 30’s, I’m now 53 and they still look good, intact and no significant staining. Only people who knew me prior to 18 know I’ve had it done. It transformed my confidence as I was so self conscious about my gap (it was a very uneven one). Best thing I ever did

FVFrog · 19/12/2022 22:26

And I thrive on coffee, red wine and dark chocolate 😁

Vanillalime · 19/12/2022 22:43

If your teeth are ok then maybe all you need is a good medical grade whitener from your dentist? I use one that costs £35 per little syringe of gel.

My dentist charges £250 per tooth for composite bonding.

Thanks to all of you- really helpful. Need to do more research but it sounds like a possibility and especially with the dentaplan thing for upkeep 😃
