Thousands of people being left with no water for days on end

3 days without water now across a large, rural area of Mid/West Wales. 11 schools closed. Only 2 water points set up, both a 35 minute drive away from us, dh drove down to one and it had ran out, no one had any update on when there would be more. We checked Facebook to find out the other one had also ran out. Dwr Cymru haven't got a bloody clue what they are doing, we are on the priority list (tiny kids) as are many of our elderly neighbours but in 3 days we have had no water delivered to our houses regardless of what the website says. The only updates we are getting is from local councillors on Facebook. Nothing from Dwr Cymru, just a vague post on the website about how they are aware. An absolute fucking joke! I get that there has been a big freeze and there are a lot of burst pipes but the management of this crisis is shocking and nothing is being said about it.

Tomorrow will be day 4 for some people, other nearby villages aren't far behind and are on over 48 hours with not a drop, no deliveries, not enough water points and lack of communication about how much is available at them, no priority service delivery, no help for the vulnerable, no concern for newborn babies who need water for formula, and the rest of the UK seemingly unaware. And there's no water left in any shops anywhere locally.

Anyone else in the same boat? We are getting so angry now.

There will always be vulnerable people in a situation like this - people with small children, disabled people, isolated seniors. The authorities should focus on helping them first and consistently.

Everyone else is well advised to have bottled water in - obviously there's only so much you can reasonably have but a single cheapo pack of 6 2 litre bottles from Aldi is better than nothing. Also important to know about how to store grey water for flushing the loo. Also good idea to have some extra packs of baby wipes to freshen up.

If everyone has a bit of a buffer to get through, the authorities can focus on the people who really need it. And know where your stopcock is.

Smart arse that I am, we had a burst pipe recently that, for reasons I dread to think about, wasn't affected by the stopcock. Insurance weren't able to come for several days. Luckily we managed to get a busy local plumber.

I bloody hate water related issues.

We bought 40 litres of water and are driving half an hour to my DS’s there times a day to refill them. It’s one of these things where you don’t realise how much water you actually use until you don’t have it. We are a family of four adults WFH and retired. Obviously we aren’t showering, it’s the washing up, hand washing and flushing that uses to the water.

What’s going on? Why is the water off all over the place?

Might have something to do with the huge profits made by private water companies and the refusal of selfsame private water companies to maintain the water network properly.

Burst pipe in our area meant we only had a trickle of water for hours on Sunday morning. Low water pressure then meant the boiler went off, then a pipe froze due to no heating and it was v v cold here.

Lasted about 6 hours in total and that was bad enough, you have my sympathies.
