To write this in a card to Hindu doctor?

My baby boy was born on August 31st this year. As the Registrar was helping me post birth, she explained that he had been born on Ganesh's birthday and that it was meant to be a very prosperous date to be born.

I wanted to send her a thank you card and say something along the lines of::

'Whilst I was holding baby, and through the haze of the gas and air, you explained that he had been born on Ganesh's birthday and that it was a very prosperous day to be born. Baby has already brought a lot of light and love to our family and I'm sure he will continue to do so.'

Is Ganesh the right way to say/spell it? I have seen/heard variations like Ganesha? And because I was high as a kite on gas and air I'm pretty sure she said it was a prosperous day to be born on, would that ring true? Or have I maybe heard' disastrous instead of prosperous and am romanticising?! 😂😂

Ganesh/Ganesha are alternative spellings, but are you sure she didn't say "propitious^ (as in favourable) rather than prosperous?

Congratulations on your lovely baby boy though, and if you'd like to send a card the wording you suggested sounds great

Or auspicious.
Lord Ganesh is a delightful deity who encouras humans in their endeavors.

Not sure if the registrar or doctor said this but I wouldn’t say this unless you’re really sure the person concerned is religious.

If anyone assumed any affinity for Hinduism on my part owing to my name/origin it would be an enormous error about me because nothing is further from the truth. I suspect (white British) spouse will say the exact same if someone assumed he is a Christian. So - if you’re sure then yes I guess.

Encourages!

But the OP is responding to a direct comment from the doctor so she isnt assuming anything

Surely you are giving them a card to thank them? Why not stick to that? You aren't really sticking to making it about them.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 19/12/2022 19:42

I think it’s fine
Ganesh is correct
she may have said auspicious not prosperous but either would make sense

nomcachange · 19/12/2022 19:55

It’s lovely 🥰

The registrar is the one who mentioned Ganesh. Did you read the opening post?

Flapjackquack · 19/12/2022 20:16

Awww this is so lovely OP. Sorry no help with the spelling but what a lovely situation

Karmakamelion · 19/12/2022 20:17

We normally would say Ganeshji rather than without the ji as its more respectful but its a lovely thing to do

greensnail · 19/12/2022 20:17

The registrar is the doctor - same person.

Hi everyone

Thank you for your advice. Yes it was a direct comment from the doctor who said 'in my religion it is (not sure I heard the word correctly so could be auspicious/prosperous) to be born on Ganesh' s birthday'.

I think about this doctor often as she was so amazing, and as a midwife myself, I love receiving cards with a personal message.

So I am definitely not inferring anything about this Registrar (grade of Doctor for those not in the know) as I am way, way too sensitive to how I could be perceived in my day to day life and would be horrified to think I had offended anyone, hence doing my own research and gathering opinions where I can.
