The advice on here will be 'ring 111' but I suspect they will call a potentially over-cautious ambulance anyway... and I'm not sure whether I'm just being a wuss and my symptoms are 'just' flu.

Came down with Covid about 2 weeks ago. Fairly mild. Back at work negative last week and fine bar light residual cough.

Friday and Saturday the cough ramped up. I've had a temp of 38.5c since. Painful chest, barking and chesty.

Awful night last night but today I'm going from bad to worse. Temp hovering just below 40c, paracetamol and ibuprofen not helping.

Rang GP this morning- despite ringing the second the line opened there were no appointments by the time I'd got through the queue. OOH appt booked but not until this evening.

Lying here feeling practically delirious, going more and more downhill, pouring with sweat, and panicking that this is not normal!

Or is this normal with flu or maybe a chest infection?!

No stiff neck but had to turn bedroom lights off as they were hurting my eyes.

7 hours until OOH- should I just hang in there until then?! Genuinely unsure.

I would.

many for friends or family that could pop in ?

and surely you’ll just spread covid if you start travelling around?

You have written a very coherent post. I doubt you are “delirious”

Goodgrief82 · 19/12/2022 11:29

I would WAIT I meant to say

WhatHappenedToYoyos · 19/12/2022 11:29

I wouldn't go to A&E as you could be sitting there 7 hours! I know if rather be in my home feeling rough than in a waiting room. 111 is a good middle ground to discuss your symptoms and let them help you decide.

StarDolphins · 19/12/2022 11:30

I wouldn’t go to A&E with this, I would wait for your appt.

AnyRandomName · 19/12/2022 11:31

I'd wait as you have an appointment that's probably quicker than A&E.

Whilst you're clearly unwell it doesn't yet sound like an emergency. However, only you know how unwell you are and so our advice can only be so helpful.

Wait for your appointment - you'll probably wait that long in A&E anyway

LeafHunter · 19/12/2022 11:33

I spend 14hrs in a&e with a ten day old baby yesterday. It was carnage and mostly full of people with flu/temperature/cough etc. I would highly not recommend it

Voomvoom · 19/12/2022 11:34

3 yr old DD was in a&e Saturday - ten hour wait. Your appointment will come quicker. Also agree that if you can write such a clear post then you're not delirious.

enjoyingscience · 19/12/2022 11:34

Wait until this evening. Sorry you feel like shite though.

try and manually cool yourself down too if you’re fevered - cool compress, no big duvets etc. We ended up in A&E with DS recently and the number of kids with a fever sat in their massive outdoor coats in the boiling hospital was crazy.

PinkLobster · 19/12/2022 11:34

Ok, thanks all, will sit tight.

Fair enough re coherent post not being indicative of delirium, the second I try and stand up to go to the loo everything spins and feels confused etc. Whilst I might not be delirious I'm really not well at all, which is what I was trying to convey.

Unless you became actually delirious (ie unable to write a mumsnet post) then no what you have posted doesn't warrant a and e in my opinion.

Not even close

lynthesearesexpeople · 19/12/2022 11:38

I’d wait.

To be honest, my whole family has been down with the same all week, we are coming out
the others side now.

Theres so vicious viruses doing the rounds.

Goodgrief82 · 19/12/2022 11:38

And when you give your symptoms to the doc, I wouldn’t use the term “delirious” unless you actually are

in an acutely disturbed state of mind characterized by restlessness, illusions, and incoherence; affected by delirium.

You’re poorly and probably hardly eating and weak. Very very common.

SallyWD · 19/12/2022 11:42

I had exactly the same thing happen! I got Covid, recovered mostly then a few weeks later got a chest infection. I was dizzy, out of it, delerious and very scared that something was seriously wrong! My GP was luckily able to see me within 2 hours and her whole attitude was rather dismissive, asking what I expected her to do, why had I come in? etc etc. She said these were normal chest infection symptoms and I should go to bed and take paracetamol.
I felt really foolish but it had genuinely seemed like an emergency to me at the time.
Hope you feel better soon.

Willmafrockfit · 19/12/2022 11:42

are you eating properly
bananas?
plenty of fluid?
chicken soup ?

I had that too - room spinning when I stood up. You'll be OK.

PinkLobster · 19/12/2022 11:43

Thanks all, feel less worried now after a good old mumsnet tear down.

Must admit I have never had such a high temp for so long, guess just worried it's something more sinister. Need to step away from Google...

susiesuelou · 19/12/2022 11:45

I have covid currently and I feel extremely lightheaded, nauseous and just a bit "out of it" when I stand or move about too quickly. Sitting still or lying I'm mostly ok. It's bloody horrible. I don't have a temp anymore though. Sorry you're feeling so crap OP, it's truly miserable.

Well that didn’t take much!

Ijuststoodonlego · 19/12/2022 11:46

Yes leave Google :)
Rest and hydration.
Sounds like what we had recently. Awful it was. The dizziness was insane.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

AnyRandomName · 19/12/2022 11:46

Your symptoms sound like mine when I had a bad chest infection. The GP did sort it with antibiotics.

We're not unsympathetic, just trying to save you a wasted A&E trip Grin

Glad it's not just me! Hope you are feeling better now.

Chest infection was my thought this morning, that would be better than taking the whole family down with flu over Christmas!
