Can I buy Turkey just in slices for Christmas dinner?

I know that sounds crap.

Live abroad and always go home for Christmas. This year we’re staying here, just dh, myself and Dd. We’re not fussed about Turkey really, but don’t mind it. I don’t want to buy a Turkey…can I buy slices to cook or already cooked? Is that weird

I'd buy a turkey breast. Or small crown.

onepieceoflollipop · 18/12/2022 22:48

You can buy sliced turkey (cooked) in the UK
or small portions of raw turkey I think they are called turkey steaks.
not sure if they sell them where you are I got the impression you are not in the UK this year?
in your position I might buy a nice organic chicken breast or two, roast and slice them. Would that be a good compromise?

@OoooohMatron So Turkey breasts the same as chicken ones and just cook and slice?

If you live abroad and are staying there this year, how can we answer your question if we don't know where you are?!

Have something you like instead - there is no law that says you must have turkey.

Nooneeverplaysthepipesofpeace · 18/12/2022 22:50

@onepieceoflollipop Yes, not in the U.K., but I’m sure they must do Turkey, just something I never buy. Could do chicken, but seems a bit samey

Can't you just Google it or look in your nearest big supermarket?

onepieceoflollipop · 18/12/2022 22:54

Yes you’ll need to see what is available, have a look in the supermarket.
one year I had scampi I love it!

EarlofShrewsbury · 18/12/2022 22:55

It's my cheat roast , I buy deli slices of chicken and poach them in gravy until they are really hot,I haven't given us food poisoning yet.

Never tried it with turkey.

All the butchers round here do turkey and ham parcels which is a thick slice of roast turkey breast and the same of roast ham, with stuffing in the middle. All pre cooked so you just heat it in the microwave.

@Blocked
they sound good

Nooneeverplaysthepipesofpeace · 18/12/2022 23:06

@Blocked I don’t have a microwave 😬they sound yum though

A lot depends on where you are. Where I am some supermarkets stock premade roast dinners and some do turkey and ham that are not too bad. I would do my own side dishes though. Otherwise you could go to the deli in the supermarket and see if they do turkey and ask them to cut it extra thick and reheat in gravy.

Honestly though if you are all not fussed about turkey I would go for what you all like. We are having beef this year and my best friend and her family are having tacos. Just because it is Christmas it does not mean turkey.

AnonWeeMouse · 18/12/2022 23:11

Turkey sucks

I'd slow cook a gammon joint instead.
Or have chicken.. or beef.. or a Chicken And Mushroom Pot Noodle..

Have your favourite, it's Christmas.

LangClegsInSpace · 18/12/2022 23:17

We’re not fussed about Turkey really

Then get something else that you will really enjoy.

I don't know why I added 'in the microwave', I heat them in the oven!
Total brain fart moment!
