It's been around ages. I hate it. Just say "I only found out today that.."

There are a lot of grammatically awful things in this thread, OP.

Tbh I thought you were saying you were today years old when you found out a phrase was in circulation, but you didn't say what the phrase was.

I think as bad as the phrase is, your explanation is worse

Doggydarling · 18/12/2022 09:53

It's awful, I agree. It's as bad as 'my bad' and 'back in the day', my bad what? bad apple, bad pain, bad grammar...
Back in which day? Yesterday, this day a year ago, some random day over a decade ago?? I remember my mother banning the word awesome, it wasn't allowed to be used in her house, the reason was her grandchildren (aged under 10) were using it constantly and for multiple reasons, she said they needed to extend their vocabulary, and it worked.

RambamThankyouMam · 18/12/2022 09:56

Another dumb Americanism, along with "could care less."

Notanotherone6 · 18/12/2022 10:04

The end of that sentence usually shows how utterly dumb some people are, so I wouldn't expect them to be able to use reasonable grammar either.

BellePeppa · 18/12/2022 10:05

It’s a terrible phrase. I didn’t even know what it meant but it still grates.

Not knowing things doesn't make a person stupid. Sometimes we just haven't learnt it yet.

Yes! At least a decade it means to me. I love this phrase.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 18/12/2022 10:20

I have been hearing this phrase a lot more recently and yea I hate it too. It honestly makes me feel a bit angry. Its completely pointless as well, saying 'I was today years old when...' is much longer than saying 'today...' it adds nothing

Sparklingbrook · 18/12/2022 10:24

Yes I tend to not want to know what the thing they didn’t know was when they announce it like that. It’ll be something like the fuel pump arrow or that you can take a baby’s vest off downwards. 😴

"My bad" has been around for about 17 years.
I remember the first time I heard it with great clarity. It's fucking awful.

girlmom21 · 18/12/2022 15:29

Yeah it was you @Believeinyou 🤣

SnuggleBuggleBoo · 18/12/2022 15:34

I'll tell you what's annoying me - 'I'm screaming!' in response to some mildly witty post. If anyone is really hysterically screaming in response to something they read online they need help.
