Burst pipe plumber callout

Knickerbockergloria · 17/12/2022 13:52

Woke up to a burst pipe downstairs this morning 😫Called the plumber who handily was nearby and there within the hour. He spent about an hour or so cutting holes in things to find the pipe, capped it off and went on his way.

How much would you expect this to cost? Interested in any part of the country - but for context we are north west

Few hundred, maybe more depending on where pipe was frozen

Dox9 · 17/12/2022 13:55

200

It's a weekend and you've had really fast efficient service from a professional. Especially when they are probably busy.

I'm sorry but I'd expect it to cost an arm and a leg.

FluffyYucca · 17/12/2022 13:57

Would be about £100 - £150 for the plumber I use, depending on exact times and materials needed. Am in the South East, so would think NW might be cheaper?

Digdoo · 17/12/2022 13:58

We are in the same region and called out a plumber yesterday for a burst pipe. We were charged £70 which was a £60 call out fee and £10 for parts. Took about 40mins in total to fix.

You were incredibly lucky. You can wait months for a plumber where I live. I'd say basic rate £200 to include travel as they couldn't plan it around other things. Plus possibly a premium for the extreme speed.

We have a box of plumbing gear in the garage. Saves worrying about plumber availability and cost.

Newusernameaug · 17/12/2022 14:01

If it was someone I knew and used regularly (I renovate houses) then approx £100 for say 2 hours labour.
a call out to someone I don’t know £200-250?

londonrach · 17/12/2022 14:03

Anti social call out fee...my neighbours paid £180 for that

Knickerbockergloria · 17/12/2022 14:08

£85!

I was amazed at how reasonable it was, so wanted to check what might be expected, price-wise. I would happily have paid double that and still thought myself lucky. Have given him a nice tip, but kind of want to tell him to put his prices up!

Anyway, back to mopping up...

That's a great price! I'd expect £150 - 200.

ditherydotty · 17/12/2022 14:54

That's a good price

AHelpfulHand · 17/12/2022 14:58

The plumbing company i know charges £150 + VAT call out, plus the same for the first hours labour

BorgQueen · 17/12/2022 15:08

DH would charge £100 plus any parts. He’s currently being bombarded by Corgi homeplan, offering him ( and everyone else on their books) £125 for the 1st hour then £75 each subsequent hour.
He could have worked for the last 72 hours solid, his phone has not stopped since Monday. He went out to an old lady with dementia yesterday morning who had no heating from 2pm the previous day, he didn’t get notified till 8am, they can’t cope with the amount of calls.

He spoke to a friend who had no heat or hot water and she is with British Gas homecare, they told her the 28th of December was the earliest they could come because she’s not ‘priority’ - DH talked her through what to do and she managed to get it working.

@Knickerbockergloria i hope you don’t mind me asking, but I’m in the same area and looking for a plumber to identify a potential leak - would you be happy to share their details?
