Not to take a pram to Centre Parcs

SunshineAndFizz · 17/12/2022 11:24

Our pram takes up soooo much room in the boot (for our 4 month old).

He loves being in our BabyBjorn carrier - could we do with just that for a trip to centre parcs? I'm used to waking lots with him in the carrier.

Or is this madness and the pram is essential?

BU - yes you need a pram
NBU - no a carrier only will be fine

Sounds fine to me, you could always rent a buggy at CP.

nannynick · 17/12/2022 11:33

Carrier would be fine in my view, even at Longleat which is hilly. You are handsfree, so can still carry a bag. You can also get other people in your group to carry bags, such as if you are going swimming.

I took DD2 at 3 months and took her car seat/pram as I also had DD1 and was on my own. Meant I could rock her while having a coffee, eating etc. or when DD1 was in the playground.
However, if you have another pair of adult hands or your baby is happy being in the sling when you're not moving, it's perfectly do-able.

A buggy would be handy for carrying all the swimming stuff back and forth. You can rent them, but not sure how great they would be for a baby that young - when I hired one it was a stroller style.

toomuchlaundry · 17/12/2022 11:41

Will you be eating out?

AndEverWhoKnew · 17/12/2022 11:43

We used our pram a lot at CP. Lots of walking , and the ground was uneven and slippy in places. I wouldn't have wanted to navigate it with just a carrier.

yellowjellytot · 17/12/2022 11:51

I personally would have struggled without a buggy on a holiday while mine were little as they would nap in them while we ate dinner etc. I guess you know more how it would work for you.

Toastoftheton · 17/12/2022 11:57

We were there very recently but couldn't fit our pram in the boot with all the other stuff. We rented one there but it was a pushchair with a bit of a dodgy wheel. It was fine for our 8month but not sure it would be great for a 4month old.

We were super close, staying at the flats at longford in Ireland so everything was 3-5minute walk and I think a carrier would be grand for that. If you're much further out in a lodge I think a pram would be wise. As others have said, useful for carting all the swim stuff to and from the pool and to allow you to just wander around and have a nosey which we did a lot of.

So yes, bring a pram if at all possible would be my advice. Also have a wonderful trip! You'll love it, perfect for little ones.

Hire one there.

knowsmorethansnow · 17/12/2022 16:10

I did 4 days at Disney with just a sling. If it's the right fit for you and baby it's fine

SunshineAndFizz · 17/12/2022 16:16

Thanks for the responses, had no idea you could hire them there so that might an option!

Yeah we'll be eating out. Although it feels like one of us always has to hold him and eat one handed anyway when we're out and about.

Which CP? Woburn is fine for walking everywhere (with baby in carrier) but I think Longleat would be a nightmare (widespread and hilly) - although there is the Land Train.

Whinfell (Lake District), I think it's quite hilly actually.

Wouldn't be a problem for me. But then I slinged everywhere in life and just let baby nap in there while ate if needed. In over 2.5 years I've used a pram/buggy only half a dozen times and always regretted the hassle.

Mistletoemisery · 17/12/2022 16:27

Buy a cheap fold up buggy. You’ll get loads of use out of it over the years and they don’t take up much boot space. A lot of them lie flat so can be used for under 6m. I used to have my big pram for long walks, shops etc and my cheap buggy for holidays and keeping in the boot.

user14728311987 · 17/12/2022 16:31

You should be fine with just a carrier. We rarely use the pushchair day to day as it is so much easier to just put the carrier on.
We went abroad for a week and could have easily done without the pushchair. She won't sit in the pushchair stationary whatsoever so always sits on laps in restaurants.
I also took a stretchy wrap on holiday which feels a lot more comfy sitting down in and wore her for a few meals when she was sleeping.

PetrasPony · 17/12/2022 16:53

For whinfell if you aren’t staying close to the Center area then you’ll need a pram, have been with ours when under 6 months and they were definitely necessary

Plantlady10 · 17/12/2022 16:57

Definitely dont need a pram, we have an 11 month old and have never used one! I love the freedom of not having to worry about pram accessibility, and at 4 months they will still be on a front carry so you can wear a backpack with everything you need

modgepodge · 17/12/2022 17:02

We took our daughter at 7 months and took the pram and used it once. It took up room in the boot and in the room and we wished we hadn’t bothered. We weren’t particularly big sling users either. If you’re used to the sling just take that.
