11 month old breakfast ideas

Catdaft · 16/12/2022 21:27

The topic section wouldnt let me scroll to parenting so I clicked this.

My 11 month old usually has weetabix and banana for breakfast but is now refusing it. She has been late getting her teeth so I've not tried her with toast or anything yet because im afraid of choking (probably paranoid). Any ideas on what else I could give her? Or just breakfast ideas in general. I've tried ready brek and porridge which she hates. I also sometimes give her yoghurt with banana

Pancakes and fruit? Or boiled egg and soggy soldiers if you are worried about choking?

FrostyPaws · 16/12/2022 21:31

As in soggy from being dipped in egg not water in case that wasn’t obvious 😂

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 16/12/2022 21:33

Scrambled egg.

Avocado.

Readybrek.

Anything on toast.

Any other cereal in milk.

Fruit
Pancakes
Waffles
Yoghurt

Snoopystick · 16/12/2022 21:34

Scrambled egg. Cheese cubes, fruit and breadsticks. Toast should be ok at that age?

Fusciainertia · 16/12/2022 21:35

Bean on toast just cut the toast up
Porridge
Peanut butter on toast

Catdaft · 17/12/2022 08:35

Thanks for the replies I'll give some of these a go. @Snoopystick I know I probably just paranoid but the lack of teeth just worry me with the chewing but I'll go for it and see how she gets on

She’ll just gum the toast, it’s good to try new textures.

Pancakes are a good idea with some fruit in them. Try strawberries or blueberries.

Whatifthegrassisblue · 17/12/2022 08:49

Weetbix. Toast. Fruit. Yoghurt. Pancakes. Porridge. Crumpets. Muffins
These are my go- tos

Iwantmyoldnameback · 17/12/2022 08:52

Gumming toast may help bring her teeth through.

BuffaloCauliflower · 17/12/2022 08:53

We did baby led weaning and DS had toast, pancakes etc from 6 months. They don’t need teeth to eat these things, they just gum and suck them. 6 months they’d have been in fingers but by 11 months cut up smaller. At 11 months I’d be expecting most babies to be eating these things regardless of weaning so I wouldn’t delay any further. Also maybe scrambled egg/omelette, warm porridge too? The normal cheap microwave sachets are fine you don’t need special baby porridge.

My 7 month old loves scrambled eggs, cream cheese on toast, crumpets, she swiped some Nutella on toast off her sister 🫣 and loved that!

Maybe jazz up the porridge a bit. I give mine a carrot cake type one. Finely grated carrot, nutmeg and cinnamon and a small dash of maple syrup, she loves that.

Avocado is a good one but hit and miss with mine, could try the low salt and sugar baked beans.

Toast will be fine, it is scary but solid starts is a brilliant website/app for food sizes.
I make a variety of things like pancakes, toast, porridge (peanut butter and banana is a favourite), omelettes, different fruits, French toast with blueberries is my DD's current favourite but she absolutely loves blueberry pancakes.
I started with these even before she had teeth and she did really well with them. It is terrifying at first but they'll surprise you by what they can chew with their gums

Flamingogirl08 · 17/12/2022 09:00

Oh also peanut butter in porridge or yoghurt is a big hit here

Purplechicken207 · 17/12/2022 09:10

Check out solid starts on instagram/online. And they have a free app with food database guides on how to cut/serve to prevent choking. My baby's first food was toast at 6m old. They don't need teeth to chew! In fact got his first teeth at 9m.
And the prime time for them to learn to handle different foods and not to choke is 6-10 months (according to development experts), so waiting doesn't lessen chance of choking, its more about avoiding the prime suspects (whole small berries and beans, hard chunks of fruit like apple, hotdogs/sausages, popcorn, etc).
Porridge with frozen fruit like blueberries (crush them slightly after cooking) or chopped frozen cherries, or flavours like apple and cinnamon, bakewell etc
Full fat yoghurt (we like the fage brand) sometimes with a bit of nut butter or Ella's kitchen prune puree mixed in
Homemade pancakes or waffles (low/no sugar and i often boost nutrition by using some buckwheat flour or polenta instead of solely plain flour, and chuck in stuff like blended spinach). I batch cook so have a freezer stash of these
Toast with nut butter
Scrambled eggs
Slightly crushed beans on toast. Personally use homemade, batch cooked and frozen in portions. I use the eatingwiththekids recipe on instagram, so no salt and just a touch of maple syrup (she also has loads of free recipes for porridge flavours, nutrition packed 'cakes' which are suitable for snacks and breakfast too, well worth a look)
I pretty much always serve fresh fruit too, usually something high in vit c to help their bodies absorb iron from the main food

I'll probably get told I'm unrealistic like I did last time because who has time to cook etc 🙄 But I make a batch of something cheaply once a fortnight or so and freeze things in portions so it's just grab and heat/defrost for breakfast and snacks.

Apparently it's quite common for babies and toddlers to refuse something if they previously ate it day in and day out, plus varying meal gives access to a wider nutrition profile

Toast is underrated in my opinion. I’ve found that the familiarity of toast encourages my boy to try new foods as toppings. His favourite at the moment is avocado.

Some other toast toppings he enjoys:
scrambled egg
peanut butter
beans
mashed banana
jam
tinned tomatoes
ham & cheese
cheese on toast (you can hide chopped peppers amongst the melted cheese too)

Catdaft · 17/12/2022 21:25

Thanks for the replies. She's getting toast ans banana in the morning 😂is fingers better or cutting it up small? And lightly toasted or just normal?

Oysterbabe · 17/12/2022 21:28

Toast is fine. Both of mine sucked on toast fingers when they still had few teeth.

Make those banana and egg pancakes.

Jellyjam36 · 17/12/2022 21:29

Porridge
Crumpets
Toast

Cuppasoupmonster · 17/12/2022 21:31

Why are you worried about choking at 11 months? DD had fingers of toast from about 8mo if I remember rightly, she had porridge or mashed weetabix before that.

Tumbleweed101 · 17/12/2022 21:33

I usually do fingers so they have plenty to grip hold of. At 11mths she can probably manage a variety of finger foods now. They can scare you at times but just keep a careful eye.

If you are worried what to do if they choke then watch some first aid clips on YouTube about choking babies so you feel confident you could deal with a problem.

I do triangles. Cut the crusts off and then into 2 triangles, I find that my LO finds that easier to grip
