Dinner invite

I've been invited to a colleague's home for dinner next Tuesday. It's a small affair but I am relatively new to the department. They have all know each other for quite some time.
I get very anxious about these things and don't know what I should take with me. I don't want to look cheap but also don't want other to think that I am trying to hard! Is a bottle of something enough or should I take 2 bottles?? And chocs?
Please tell me what you think is right for this context.
Thank you 😊

One bottle, and chocs.

Laurdo · 16/12/2022 14:03

Maybe a bottle and some nice mince pies.

A bottle and chocs is nice, or a bottle and flowers for the hostess is a sweet, old fashioned nice thing to do.

A bottle of wine and a plant is fine.

A bottle of fizz is always nice at this time of year.

Go classic - one decent bottle and flowers.

One bottle and flowers is generous and lovely

Take one bottle of wine. Supermarket 10-quid will do.
OR a nice bunch of flowers
OR a box of special chocs.

Any ONE of the above is all you need take.

I agree with 2bazookas. From someone I don't know very well I'd expect a bottle of wine but nothing more. A good friend of mine arrived with wine and flowers the other day which was lovely! But I might have thought it's too much if I didn't know her well.

It’s a few days before Christmas - I’d get flowers as well as wine.
