To wonder why Royal Mail are accepting parcels at this point?

Surely it’s time to stop, and clear backlog? I’ve had no post on a month, parcels posted in mid-November haven’t arrived.

Social media shows crazy pile ups.

I don’t begrudge the strikers, but surely the company needs to pause at this point?

Im also amazed small businesses are still using them frankly- I’ve had a regular order today dispatched with Royal Mail… I’m not hopeful it’ll arrive

Texts to landlines confuse the fuck out of people if they aren't expecting them.

I think someone is seriously underestimating the difficulties some elderly people have with even the most basic technology. We've set up mum with speed dial on a large phone with photos of us that as she presses to dial out. She's lucky she has us to manage appointments but many don't and using texts on phones would be impossible for them.

Just because it's outside of someone's experience doesn't mean it isn't a reality for some. Having said that a simple IT instruction should allow.letter appointments for those who need them.

The sooner there is a law that says you must be told who the parcel carrier is before you pay for anything ordered online, the better. Companies would switch to the more reliable (or less unreliable) carriers fairly quickly.

I sell online and offer a choice of couriers -every.single.customer chooses the cheapest option (Evri) without fail.

Do you not have to have a subscription/contract with the other couriers? Why bother?

The only winner in all this is Amazon, which is still managing next day deliveries.

No. I have a sellers account with a third party service which offers postage from all the main courier firms. It makes no difference to me which service customers choose.

This must be incredibly regional because my parcels and letter have all been arriving. Slightly slower, but there's no real backlog where I am.

It's weird as I'm getting some stuff that has been ordered more recently but not stuff ordered in November.

Royal Mail did the same a few years ago when they got deluged by Black Friday. They prioritise "new" post so that it gets delivered on time and let the old post (which is already late) languish until they get around to it. After all, the compensation claims for lateness are already triggered, whether it's a week late or a month - the compensation is the same so no incentive for them to prioritise old post!

Same with trains and planes - rather than running one late, which in turn means following services are also late, they cancel it, meaning following services run on time - all to minimise compensation claims, i.e. one train full of passengers rather than several.

We've had no problems with Evri either. Around a month ago, I ordered a few things from M&S. Some were dispatched by Evri, some by RM. The Evri ones arrived bang on time within the week. RM parcel still not arrived - tracking says it's "out for delivery" - been showing that for 2 weeks now - I presume they've lost it!

Postcodes don’t denote single houses, so it’s possible for post to be put through wrong doors in the same post code area. That said, the first line of your address AND your full postcode should identify your exact house and so, in theory things shouldn’t go missing. We do have things go walkies here though. Our house has a name, there are two other houses with similar names, eg ‘Church House’, ‘Church Cottage’, ‘Church View’ (not actual names) in the same postcode area, so we often end up with each others’ post.

We have four different properties with the word 'rectory' in their name within my postcode. You can just imagine! We are all on very good terms....

So true. Amazon deliveries will generally turn up when they say they will.

I've noticed that Amazon logistics have also started delivering for other companies too.

Are people tipping their posties as usual this Christmas?

Absolutely not.

LivIoe · 20/12/2022 10:24

All my parcels just arrived, from mid November

Amazon must be using slave labour and doing it at a loss with the assumption that they can put royal mail out of business and then start charging a proper rate?

We are buying and selling a house at the moment and our completion has been held up because of the strikes. We’ve hand delivered any important documents but our solicitors need a form signed by a previous owner releasing ownership of a garage for the property and it was apparently posted 30/11 but my solicitors still haven’t received it.
the previous owners are refusing so go into the office to sign another copy because as far as they are concerned they have done what they needed to and posted it 😡😡😡
