To add goose fat to 5% mince to make half decent burgers?

Partner has bought 5% fat mince to make burgers for dinner tonight 🙄 they will be so dry and horrible. I was wondering if I can add fat content by stirring in goose fat, adding butter, anything like that to make them juicy - or will this just be utterly disgusting???

I wouldn’t. It takes a lot to get the balance right.

Usee8789754 · 16/12/2022 09:06

it will be horrible. Put a cheese filling in the centre. The fat from this will seep out

Brendabigbaps · 16/12/2022 09:06

We always use 5% fat for burgers, they’re never dry. It’s how you cook them.

WimpoleHat · 16/12/2022 09:06

Yes. I’m feeling ill just thinking about it….!!

Cigarettesaftersex1 · 16/12/2022 09:07

I also use 5% fat mince and never had a dry burger.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 16/12/2022 09:08

As long as you don't overcook them, 5% mince is fine for burgers

Grunch · 16/12/2022 09:08

I would either put some cheese in the middle, or cook the burgers with some bacon rashers or sausages.

Oysterbabe · 16/12/2022 09:09

I always use 5% and they're great.
Are you overcooking?

greenacrylicpaint · 16/12/2022 09:09

don't
though I would add finely chopped onions and a small amount of finely grated cheese for fkavour & texture.

CorvusPurpureus · 16/12/2022 09:11

Make sloppy joes instead for a change?

DPotter · 16/12/2022 09:13

Not goose fat - will be too cloying.

I add olive oil to him to help the mince stick together

MaybeIWillFuckOffThen · 16/12/2022 09:14

Maybe overcooking then - 5 percenters, what's the secret??

I always use 5% mince. Always fine.

May300 · 16/12/2022 09:18

I used 5 percent when on slimming world, my partner combined an egg and bread crumbs with the mince and shallowed fried them rather than in the oven. Added melted cheese, lettuce, tomato and fried onions when done, all good and not dry.

SummaLuvin · 16/12/2022 09:21

not watched this video for a few months, but I think it covers fat content, among other things.

RegularNameChangerVersion21 · 16/12/2022 09:58

They're not necessarily dry but the fat definitely adds more flavour and makes it a more balanced meal than 5%. I'd add some egg, plenty of seasoning and don't overcook.

MaybeIWillFuckOffThen · 16/12/2022 21:06

Update - made the patties very thin and fried them for a shorter time than usual - not dry at all! Thanks MN, it's been the way I cooked them all along!!

(Youngest child still spurned them though. Don't know why I bother 😆)

I’d add some Parmesan cheese but this might not be right!!!
