How do people capture memories these days?

myself and DH have the christening for our little girl in January and I was thinking back on my younger siblings christening / parties etc and how we have home videos from all these occasions. I couldn’t imagine going round the christening with my phone out videoing people - it would seem invasive and I think people would think it’s weird! Plus then how would I save the videos!

Do people just not capture these things anymore on video. Do people still use camcorders??? Should I get one!?

I feel a bit sad that DD won’t have the home movies I have!

YABU - just record people on your phone / get a camcorder

YANBU - it’s odd and people don’t do it anymore

Just record on your phone, they have incredibly cameras on them these days. Doing it with a phone is no more invasive than a camcorder, just let people know you will be videoing it.

I think people photograph and film every second of their lives! I don't think anyone would find it odd if you recorded bits from the Christening.

The camcorder has pretty much disappeared for the casual user... Because your phone already is one!

Also what do you mean how do you save the videos? It is literally saved on your phone - you should be backing up all your photos and video to cloud storage for safe keeping - that's what most people do nowadays

I meant more if I say take a video on my phone if DD with her uncle, then take a few pictures, then another video snippet. It’ll all be muddled up together in my gallery and then it’ll be in the middle of Christmas pictures and whatever happen after the christening.

I was thinking of how in home video you just put the recorder back on and you’ve a full video of the day even if recorded in little bits!

Can you store them on a hard drive? Please try and keep them - Super8 cine film of my family who are no longer here is one of my most treasured possessions. I also write memories in a bullet journal because of menopause brain.

There's App both computer and mobile based that will let you string the videos together.

Well YOU don't record it obviously! Get a friend or family member to do a bit. It doesn't have to be the whole thing start to finish, just a few highlights.

You just need to learn to use the technology - it isn't hard, look it up on YouTube.

If you never took physical photos out the envelope it is the same issue, you do have to sort and organise your digital stuff in the same way otherwise you just have one giant gallery for the rest of your life and forever scroll up and down it.

So put them in a folder, or download them onto your pc, or put on a special USB stick you can plug into your TV etc - loads of options if you want them separated from everything else.

As someone else said - cutting them together is trivial and most phones will have that software built in already, and defo avail on app store / Google play
