Arthur Christmas sexism

There are other examples of sexism in Arthur Christmas but one in particular that grates...

"They used to think it was impossible to teach women to read" - Grand Santa

Harmless you might think, but if you changed the word woman and replaced it with black people, people with learning disabilities, gay, Christians, Muslims etc
There would be so much backlash and rightly so.

So why is using women (sex) something we should accept as just harmless humour?
Sex is a protected characteristic and the remark is derogatory.

The female elf is clearly overqualified but is continuously fobbed off. The poor lass has to move heaven and earth to be noticed and is only given a role when they have no options left.

Santa's wife does nothing but wait on the family, she doesn't even get invited to join them in their game and when grand Santa does a speech thanking everyone, he thanks his wife for all the womenly things she does. He doesn't even pay notice to her efforts.

No. I'm not unreasonable and I'm not overthinking it.
This one is quite bad when you re watch it. This is what kids learn both directly and subliminal.

Of course it's not sexist, if it's being pointed out as something that was wrong Confused. Would you rather films, books and tv shows swept sexism under the carpet and never mentioned it or acknowledged how sexist society has been?

Ugh. Wtf is wrong with people now. Always looking to take offence to something and make an issue out of it. I worry for our children.

Fucking snowflakes 🙄

Or it's highlighting and making fun of an old man's outdated views.

We can't pretend that these views never existed, we grow and move on, not whitewash history.

I am also now overthinking it

It's a great film!

And that Grand Santa joke is one of the funniest jokes in it.

Both Bryony and Mrs Santa are shown to be more intelligent, competent, brave and bold than any of the men in the film.

I'd suggest you take the stick out of your arse and watch it again.

It's a fabulous film. Best line has to be "and you're this charming relic"!
Wouldn't be Christmas without Arthur!
