To ask if anyone has any ideas for last minute homemade foodie Christmas gifts?

I've mucked up 🙄. I thought a group I'm in had decided not to do Christmas presents this year. But, nope, we said not doing bought pressies- homemade gifts is the remit.

We've always done home made plus bought pressies, so essentially we've scaled back.

So I now need to whip up a batch of goodies, package them up by Tuesday evening.

Previously I've done flavoured vodkas, puff pastry mince pies, festive bisvotti and gingerbread granola (which went down incredibly well 🥰).

Amy suggestions please?

And please forgive the blatant misuse of AIBU.

Candied nuts are very easy and quick. I've done those and some chocolate "sprouts" this year. Sprout recipe from the Women's Weekly!

Mulled wine spice mix kits are easy and festive. Easy to do if you have to make in bulk and quite economical. Finish with a pretty ribbon and job done.

BBC good food biscotti recipe is easy

Will they be opened Tuesday or do they have to last till Christmas? If they don't have to last I'd do melt in the middle chocolate puddings.

Nigella has a recipe for "molten chocolate baby cakes" which is essentially this. You can make them up to about 7 days before eating and they take 15 minutes prep so could be made Monday night. Put them into cupcake cases, ideally the non fluted ones and chill them in the fridge in muffin tins. Take in a cool bag with instructions to use by X date and how to cook.

I think the non fluted cases might be called baking cups from a quick Google.

Pickled eggs - my favourite!

Shortbread. Minutes to make. The proportions (by weight) are 3-2-1 flour-butter-sugar So for example, 600g flour, 400g butter, 200g sugar, plus a large pinch of salt. very very easy to make.

Caramelized nuts are lovely. Garlic croutons always go down well when I make them but I don't know how festive they are. Home made cheesy biscuits or cheese straws maybe? There's always so much sweet stuff at Christmas it's nice to have something savoury for a change.

I made this today but non-vegan as I didn't need it to be vegan so just used normal unsalted butter and Bournville and milky bar chocolate. It was so easy, delicious and it makes a really good amount!

If it won't be out of the fridge for too long, Smitten Kitchen has a recipe for homemade Irish cream that I've had my eye on for years - would make a lovely gift in a nice bottle

Christmas pudding cookies…... I made these for my daughters school fete! www.janespatisserie.com/2021/11/13/christmas-pudding-cookies/
you could even buy cookies and just decorate them to look like puddings…

I’ve made the home made Irish cream @houseargh …. It’s delish!

Reindeer noses - melt white chocolate, add red food colouring, dip malteasers in, dry/set on a cooling rack.
Gift them in an old, clean recycled jar - stick googly eyes on the front and brown felt on top/on the lid, or make antlers from brown card to stick on top.

Hot chocolate cone - small round chocolate in the bottom of cone (nose), chocolate powder, marshmallows at the top, tie off with a red ribbon and stick googly eyes on the front.

Biscotti biscuits - so quick

Mincemeat syrup (great for cocktails or serving with ice-cream!)

Ginger cordial

Limoncello

Definitely home made fudge. So simple to make, you can add baileys and decorate with white chocolate curls or push some different chocolates in as it is setting like kinder.

octoegg · 16/12/2022 07:22

Chocolate Salami looks amazing on all the recipes I've seen... but I can imagine would look terrible if I made it Grin

We did homemade jam at the last minute last year. Went down very well!

dancingqueen123 · 16/12/2022 07:46

Chilli jam - Nigella's

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 16/12/2022 08:24

I don't consume food that seems excessively handled, so many of the suggestions here would go straight to the bin.

Keep it simple & just do a nice package of brownies.

To everyone on this thread: please post these items to my address: 😂
Everything sounds delicious!

These spiced nuts are simple to make and so good. Just whip and egg white for a minutes or so until it’s frothy, add the nuts and coat them, then add sugar and spices (and I add a small pinch of a salt too) stir again and bake. I make a batch of these every year, and made some last night to give as a gift. They last a while, travel well and are easy to scale up.

NewToWoo · 16/12/2022 08:36

Do cinnamon granola.

Or Caramelised nuts or roasted garlic chilli nuts
