Teacher gifts for Christmas

My son is in reception class, its a class of 60 which has 2 teachers and about 6 teaching assistants and I think some one on one's on top of that. About 8-10 members of staff in the classroom, I am not fully sure. My son has one on one help. What is best to do for gifts? Do I just get something for his one on one, or his one on one plus his teacher and key worker and not get anything for other staff members in the classroom. I can't really afford to get something for every member of staff in the class plus I don't know how many there are. Or do I just get a few boxes of chocolates for them all to share?

Just his 1:1, his main class teachers and possibly his key worker.

I would write every teacher and TA an individual Christmas card and just hand in a tub of roses in your position. At my son's school there is one teacher and one TA per class of about 30 so I can see why you don't know what to do.

What teachers like best is notes saying thank you and home made cards from their pupils.

For my preschool DC which is a simple situation, a number of different people in the room, one teacher, different key worker etc we decided to do a big bowl of 'fancier' chocolates, Lindt etc for everyone in the room.

I'm a teacher. I would definitely not do that. One card. Bottle of wine for the key worker.

I wouldn't do anything. Maybe a card, but gifts are not necessary.

I don't understand the need for gifts. Teachers are paid, they aren't volunteers and this is not the end of the year. Why do I need to buy them a Christmas present? No one buys me a Christmas present for doing the job I am paid to do? I'm all for saying thank you for their help and support and regularly do this.

Incidentally, I work supporting schools every day. In my experience schools are terrible at thanking the external staff who work so hard to support them all year. I've always wondered how teachers and schools can be so used to this culture of gifts and thank you's, yet forget to pay it forward to those who in turn support them.

Teachers don't ask for or expect gifts
