To have an issue with this….

This might seem petty. Sort of terrified in case I get slated here.

In my late 20’s, but as I’ve got older, I look younger and younger. People think I’m 8/9 years younger than I actually am.
I’m in no way gloating… what adult woman wants to be treated like a young girl?

Went out for drinks and to a gig for the first time since having DD, 9.5 months ago- the bar staff at each place pounced on me for ID.

One who was probably 21 or younger herself couldn’t help but go on a bit. It was quite embarrassing. It actually takes a lot for me to feel embarrassed. My outfit was pretty much what a lot of others 25+ were wearing, so I don’t think for a second it was that. More so my actual face perhaps.

Started a new / second job & it was more or less the same.

Am I right to be annoyed? Yes there’s worse things in the world and this is very small. Has anyone had this issue? I feel like people, particularly other woman treat me like a child.

I always get aged between 23 to 26 and I'm 33 🤷🏼‍♀️ doesn't bother me, I find it flattering knowing I'm aging well.. it's a slight issue now as you can tell the man I'm dating is older so worry people think I have some sort of daddy issue.. but other than that I'm glad to be ID'd for my wine 🤣

Notimeforaname · 14/12/2022 22:25

I'm 35 and always get 25-28. Couldn't get upset or embarrassed about it. You have the I.D . Its grand.

BeautifulWar · 14/12/2022 22:27

Are you quite natural looking? I think a lot of young women look older these days because of the amount of tampering with one's face that seems to have become normalised. It makes it really hard to put an age on someone, so somebody natural looks younger in comparison.

Bossa09 · 14/12/2022 22:34

I usually don’t mind so much. It’s just peoples reactions as of late. And @BeautifulWar I would say I’m natural. No fillers or anything & don’t wear makeup a lot anymore or have eyelash extensions. But that’s a good suggestion. I did however have makeup on yesterday!

and @emotionalpuddle the issue was similar. We never had much of an issue before but were questioning how we looked together last night lol.

There's not many good problems to have. But I'd say this is one!

Matildahoney · 14/12/2022 22:39

I'm 40 and I always get told I look about 30! I'm quite pleased about it!

Thefriendlyone · 14/12/2022 22:42

It’s challenge 25. So if they don’t think someone looks 25 they are id’d. Which means a lot of folk over 25 do get id’d, as it’s actually very difficult to tell

my daughter is nearly 26 and has to take her id out with her, even when going for a glass of wine with me, but she’s very slim and doesn’t wear much make up, which does make her look younger, so I can see how some folks aren’t sure.

MissMaple82 · 14/12/2022 22:47

As above its challenge 25, so you probably don't look that much younger than your age, which I think is common and pretty normal. It's nothing to be annoyed about

Orla32 · 14/12/2022 22:48

I have this. Almost 30 and got ID'd for a wallpapering set in B&Q the other day as it had a blade in it. Of course I had no ID so had to hall myself and my baby back home to get my ID before I could wallpaper ... irritated the hell out of me.

MichelleScarn · 14/12/2022 22:48

How late 20s? As agree with the challenge 25 opinion which isn't too odd. Unless you meant from a Benjamin Button view that you look younger as you age?

NooneKnowsWhatItsLike · 14/12/2022 22:48

When I was a teen/in my 20s I hated it. It was really embarrassing being asked for ID when my younger friends were not!

However, now I LOVE it. I genuinely find it hilarious as do my friends who obviously know how old I am. Personal favourite was a barman who laughed when I ordered drinks and said, "We don't serve unders here". He was extremely apologetic when I produced my drivers licence.

To be honest it used to annoy me at work as people generally assume I am inexperienced but now I just roll with it and enjoy surprising them! A new colleague recently quipped how "easy" it must be for me living with my parents with no kids and no bills to pay. I just laughed. I've not lived with my parents for over 2 years and have 2 kids!

NooneKnowsWhatItsLike · 14/12/2022 22:49

Typo! I've not lived with my parents for over 20 years - not 2!

Ethelfromnumber73 · 14/12/2022 22:52

Don't worry OP, this used to happen to me but at the age of about 42 my face started to slip and I now (48) look like a melted candle. Savour the moment.

healthadvice123 · 14/12/2022 22:55

Its challenge 25 now in most pubs so if thy think you are 24 etc they will ask for id

poetrylover · 14/12/2022 23:03

I had to show id quite often growing up. Was asked for id for the lottery when you had to be 16 - I was around 27. Last id-ed at 38...make the most of it while it lasts. Now I am grey, old and wrinkly. I have good days and bad - I am over 50 and was told I looked around 36-40 the other day. I don't at all but the moment was nice!

5foot5 · 14/12/2022 23:11

It won't last for ever. Trust me.

I used to get this too all through my 20s at least. DH is nearly 5 years older than me so at times he must have appeared to be a cradle snatcher! Grin

But at some point my face sort of caught up. I am 60 now. I think I am in reasonable shape but certainly nobody does a double take when I tell them my age.

HipposHaveNipples · 14/12/2022 23:14

They pounced on you for ID? In other words, they just asked to see your ID because it's challenge 25 and you aren't too far off that age? 🙄

BriteSparke · 14/12/2022 23:16

I know, it's awful. I am forever getting told I look like an 18 month old. People are always offering me a bottle and asking if I'd like a fresh nappy. It's very frustrating. I just want to watch Blippi in peace!

Same!
It’s a shock, and quite upsetting, after looking young for so long.

This.

None of the young people I know (18 - 35) would dream of going out without ID.
You are not far over 25, and are complaining about people checking that Hmm

MaydinEssex · 14/12/2022 23:30

I've always lied, used to say I was older as a 15 or 16 year old to get served in a pub, then in my 20's I used to annoy the fuck out of my 3 year younger friend when talking to boys that I was 22 and she was 30! The boys believed me and the friend was pissed! I have always looked young for my age, it's a gift, enjoy it whilst it lasts

Icecreamandapplepie · 14/12/2022 23:31

Wait till you're 40 and still getting asked for id! That's really annoying!

44 now and no more...

As I say it was annoying without a doubt, but far worse problems to be had, eh?

I'm the same age and think I was last asked for ID about two years ago. I really don't think I look that young - it's more of an air I give off especially if I'm in jeans and a hoodie.

On the plus side, I'm taken seriously at work now and people are no longer surprised when I know what I'm talking about.

gliiterryballs · 14/12/2022 23:40

You haven't actually said what anyone has done,
Apart from ask you for ID. Is that it?

blueflagflyhigh · 15/12/2022 13:58

It's annoying when ur younger as u get older u might change ur mind! It happens to a lot of folk and it doesn't last forever! I remember everyone telling me that at the time. I always felt embarrassed though when I was out with people, got asked for ID all the time, the arm comes out stopping me at every door when I went for a night out.

One time was pretty bad though was being 26 and I was refused a lottery ticket because I didn't have ID! My mum was with me and was making it more embarrassing by saying I'm her mum I can assure u she's older than 16, she's 26 for god sake 🙄

Supermarket still ask me sometimes. Not as often as they used to. I know policy is 25 but when ur pushing 40 and being asked for ID ur like seriously 😳 I try take it as a compliment.
