To think DD’s temperature should have gone by now?

Have already had DD checked by GP and will follow advice, but just curious as to others’ experiences with this.

DD is 3 yo (4 this month), and we are now on bout 3 of tonsillitis in about 6 months. Not had it before then.

She’s been fighting off something for the last week or so (slightly coughy, not quite herself, sleep effected). Temperature started Monday morning; not mega high, 37.8-38.6 region. Comes down with medication, but has been off and on since then including today. She’s also sniffly and complaining of blocked ears.

Lots and lots of bugs at preschool (including 2 cases of scarlet fever) and thought her tongue was possibly looking dodgy yesterday so went to GP. Told not SF (phew) but tonsillitis, ride it out until Friday and call back if temp still not gone.

AIBU to think if her body was going to get rid of nasty bug she would be on the mend by now? Are we destined for round 3 of antibiotics?!

Poor thing. I don't know why they make bairns suffer with that when they can be taken out.

My rule of thumb is as long as it comes down with meds then I don't worry and then I only worry if it keeps going over 40.

So she's on her 3rd day of fever? I'm not sure that's uncommon. If no other worrying signs, and it comes down with paracetamol I wouldn't worry too much about the numbers.

Thanks. She doesn’t often have fevers (luckily!) and definitely not ones that drag on, so lacking some experience with how this plays out. We are sitting tight and crossing fingers the temp goes for good soon.

I'm not overly worried for right now, just a bit sad for her that this seems to be dragging on and on, and disappointed we’re not seeing any improvement yet. She’s barely playing, just wants to lay watching TV, which isn’t like her (she doesn’t stop!!).

(Also a bit sad that she’s currently on track to be missing her preschool Xmas party on Friday 😥 I know not important in grand scheme of health etc but it’s the only Xmas she’ll do at preschool)

A fever is a sign that a body's immune system is doing its job. As long as there are none of the worrying signs on the NHS site you don't need to worry about them.
